For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hugs to you. we drop my son at recruiters for 300 we will meet him later for dinner. But Maps & GL tomorrow! I am staying busy but I know it is going to hit hard! Thoughts and prayers to all!

Comment by TNmomof8 on July 2, 2013 at 10:48am: Just dropped my son at the recruiters office. He leaves for MEPS and then off to Great Lakes tomorrow. We went to the bank and the post office after...did not cry till standing in line at the post office.

Comment by Sharla on July 2, 2013 at 10:36am: I'm with you, taptap... I feel in a constant state of panic. This is the last full week my daughter is here. Monday to MEPS and Tuesday 9th, one week from today she will be sworn in and whisked off to GL. Where I will then learn the fine art of knowing absolutely nothing and having no control whatsoever.

I know they say not to miss'em while you're with'em, but I'm having a hard time with that. And I'm terrified I'm forgetting to do something important. She's working out pretty diligently, trying to get herself ready, although she's still a little short on the run/situps/pushups. She was hoping to be able to pass that test the first time around, but it looks like maybe not. To make up for that, she's got all the memorization work backwards and forwards. LOL.

God, I'm going to miss that girl. In 18 years, I haven't been without her for more than 4 weeks, and that was talking to her on the phone every night. *breathing*

So so so so glad we have this place to be together!! I'm making a list of those of you with recruits leaving on the 8th, 9th and 10th, in case maybe they'll be together, and I'll friend request you.

We only have a couple more days left before we drop our son off...Sunday to the hotel and Mon, 8 July he begins his journey. Like many other moms i'm beyond proud but nervous, scared and worried for him. The funny thing is I left for the USAF at 18 and never gave 1 thought to how it affected my mom,...guess this is payback. July 8th moms sending prayers of strength to all of US and our recruits! Hoping we all enjoy the 4th and have a great last week with some wonderful family memories!

Comment by Nancytysmom on July 1, 2013 at 10:25pm: Thanks lemon elephant we did do baking soda paste and lots of aloe not sure I want to do more damage by have vinegar seeping into pores before testing. You never know what that could do! I'm probably paranoid but that could be my luck.

Comment by Sharla on July 1, 2013 at 9:10pm: One week. My girl gets sworn in one week from tomorrow. Something about knowing there's only one full week left has turned me into a bundle of crazy not even PMS can touch. :)

On the upside, her going away party was very cool. She opted for an Anything Goes party at the local park with water balloons and silly string and bubbles. LOL. And lots of food and craziness.
