Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Congratulations Willsmom
You did it we are 2 days behind you. Hotel in Boston tomorrow then flying out Wednesday! We are trying to heal sunburn quick apparently a day at beach is not what the incoming physician does not want to see let's hope he passes. Who knew. Adding to my stress and anxiety. I will be thinking of your son and all our recruits these next few days and weeks. Burn your Blue Candles ladies!

My son, swore in today and is at the airport fixing to head to RTC.  This has been such a tough couple of days.  I know he is ready to get started.  He is running on a few hours of sleep (shared room with snorer).  Hopefully he will sleep on the plane.  Good luck to all the kids leaving this month.

d2b2707, recruits are placed in divisions based on when they arrive and seem to be randomly placed in divisions except for 800 and 900 divisions, so there may be a lot from the same geographical area. See Ship/Division--How it Works. As far as age, there will be recruits who turn 18 within 60 days of shipping to the RTC and there may be those who are as old as 34 years old.

YooperMom:  bringing our son today, too.  Swear-in tomorrow morning, but we won't be there for that.  Then, he'll head over to boot camp at some point.  I'd think he'd be on some kind of "lay-over", too.  Just not sure.  Good luck to you and yours!

Good luck. You are right it is a new adventure!
We are all in this together. We will hand over my son tomorrow as well. I am extremely proud and nervous and we will keep all these new recruits in our prayers!

So...this morning we hand her over to the recruiter.  A "lay-over" at DEP & and then she'll be off to bc!  Where did the time go?  Praying for all of the new recruits.  What a great day to start an adventure!

Lemonelephant, when recruits are at bootcamp, is age a factor when they're put in divisions? What is the maximum age a person can be in bootcamp?
Comment by lemonelephant on June 30, 2013 at 8:01pm

NavyMAMom, yes, it wouldn't work for all of the recruits in the TG to start on the same date. They have one to four Divisions in a TG on the same DOT. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I invite you to join that group while you are there and to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) there.

Do they have that many different start dates for boot camp? My son leaves on the 15th - spends the night and flies to Chicago (Great Lakes) on the 16th.

Comment by lemonelephant on June 30, 2013 at 7:36pm

Knicky, yes, if his ship date is the 17th, he goes to the hotel on the 16th. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also invite you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) there.
