Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My daughter left yesterday and I tried not to cry as they were sworn in. I ended up with tears streaming down my face...I'm going to miss talking to her everyday. I got the call last night and was so happy to hear her voice, then cried after we hung up. It's hard to see her empty room at home, but I know this is what she wants and was so excited to go. I'm praying for her everyday and hope she is doing well and learning what she will need for the future.  I can't wait to hear her voice again! I'm looking forward to PIR and seeing her in September!

My son left on Tuesday and I cannot stop crying or thinking about him! I know he is safe but he's not only my son but one of my best friends! I was glad we were able to talk when he got to Chicago now to wait for the box and letter and looking forward to PIR!!

Our girl left on Monday, and I can't stop thinking about her. I am writing every day and wearing my Navy pin so I can feel connected to her somehow. I could never have imagined how much this would consume my thoughts. I think it is especially hard now that we have constant communication with our kids (via text and social media) and now SILENCE. Uhhh I miss her so much! So glad she was able to FaceTime us when she landed in Chicago and I got to see her beautiful smile and how excited she was.

Received the box yesterday. No letter yet with his address. This is killing me-not knowing how he is, not being able to write or call is driving me absolutely insane. I know he only left a week ago, but when he has never been away from home for more that a few days EVER , obviously I am beyond sad!

I'm reading all of your comments and it brings back memories (and some tears!) of a year ago when our son left for boot camp in July. All I can say is that is that it is so hard at first, but it gets so easier. This support group (and webiste) is AMAZING...and lemonelephant  always gives such great support and advice. As your kids move on into A school...join those support pages as well. Everything you need to know is on this site---and everyone is willing to help any questions you may have. And most importantly--we all know how you feel! :) So proud of all young men and women who have made this decision! I'm thinking about you all...hang in there!

TracyK we were able to get a few shorts texts from my son on the shuttle too; until I suggested that he close his eyes for a few minutes as it may be the last time for awhile. Always a mom! It was an unexpected treat to talk with him; I still can't believe I got the scripted phone call so fast either! But I guess the sooner BC starts the sooner it will be to graduation?

My son left today for GL. I started crying two days ago when he turned 18. I managed to keep it together today without crying until I got home, but I only teared up a little. We are going to miss him, but BC WI go by fast. We are so proud of his decision. I am glad we have been able to text & talk to him on his shuttle ride.

Lemonelephant thank you for all your help. As we received the call already I imagine the box will be mailed in a day or two. I don't anticipate the form letter for at least three weeks. I know that this week they will just be finishing with P days and I don't know if they will have a mail clerk trained by next Sunday. I truthfully haven't balled my eyes out yet... am I being strong or am I just in denial that my oldest has left the nest?

My son shipped out last Thursday. We received his final phone call Thursday night, so now I'm just waiting. I am awake at 4:30 am wondering about him. I can't wait to hear from him. I am thinking of you both, Happyone00 and Familyof6 . I have never been one to wish time away, but for the next 8 weeks I am!

We were able to see my oldest son swear in for the final time today to ship out. We received his initial scripted call already. I was able to get in a quick I love you before he hung up. I tried to spend my last few hours with him being happy and supportive. Now I am a little ... you all know. I think I will do much better in a few weeks when I know he is in the routine, I know no news is good news, right?
