Found out last Friday that my son is leaving for BC July 10th.  He had a Sept date in the beginning, so I had plenty of time to "get use to the idea".  Now that it's coming so quickly I'm happy & sad at the same time.

that's a good idea, write the numbers on the card.  My sons recruiter says he can have one and he sounded pretty sure about that.  I think how many calls they can make changes.  Not everyone gets reward calls, so I'm told.

Ok...has anyone had any experience good, bad or indifferent on the FREE calling cards?...I did get them 6 in total. Just want to be sure. I would hate to have him use them and they didn't work. Thank you for all your support

My sister is currently at GL, she just finished Battlestations yesterday and my husband ships in a few weeks too. The calling card issue: If you get calling cards from Callsforrecruits.org all you need to do is type de !-800 number in the top line of an index card and in the following lines all the codes for the 9 calling cards. That's how we did it for my sister and she had no issues with it. She made a total of 5 calls from bootcamp, the I am here call, the 4th week I am still alive call, a reward call for good division team work and 2 calls after battlestations yesterday. So they WILL call at least 3 times while in Great Lakes. So if you get your 9 calling cards jusIt write then down in 1 index card.

That confuses me too.  My son leaves in a week and none of the retailers have them in stock and there is not enough time to ship. He had said he didn't need a calling card...he will be taking his phone for the first phone call and to pass time away in the airport, but he said he would not be allowed to call during BC. His recruiter said the same thing. After BC I will be sending his phone back to him.

Still soooo confused.

Now I'm really confused because someone that was in the Navy a couple of years ago said he could make calls as long as no one screwed up but I think the one card rule still applies. Hmmmmm

I just called my sons recruiter because I was under the impression that they would not have alot of phone time during boot camp other than the initial phone call.  He said they may have 2 days tops if they get reward days if they division does well but if not they only get a day half way through.  Also, they are only allowed to bring one card.  I told him about the site and he said he would check it out, i wonder who can take all those cards because what I was just told was Navy can only bring one.  I'm having my sons party next weekend, he leaves on the 12th and someone offered to buy him one and I thought he wouldn't be able to use it.  Now I know to let him take at least 1.  Just thought I would share  :)

My daughter leaves for bootcamp July 3.  She has been a DEP since Sept.  So proud of her, but not ready for her to go.

Dropping my son at MEPS on July 10th and he's off to Great Lakes on the 11th. 

Having a very difficult time as well.  He says hes "ready to go!!"  but I'm not....   I wish you all the luck with the little one.  :(
