Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

What a day it's been! Seems like days since 7am this morning. My son had a list of things to take care of before we went to the hotel. Off we went! Once he got there, I was able to pick him up and we took him to dinner. He stopped by to say goodbye to his co-workers (made me cry) and then went to drop him back off at the hotel (made me cry). The worst part was when he handed me his keys to his car. He said he wouldn't be needing them anymore. Like that wasn't enough but our dog of ten years has been throwing up all day. She has a growth on her lip and we're not sure if it's cancer or not (would only cost us $1700 to find out...geee what a deal). I think she knows that times are a changing and I'm hoping i'm not going to lose her on top of all this. The topper is that I promised my son that if he could make it through boot camp the I could quit smoking. That starts tomorrow on top of every thing else. Needless to say, it's been a very melancholy day and i'm just hoping that tomorrow the sun is shining and it's happier times ahead. Thanks for letting me have my pitty party! I'm thinking and praying for all the kiddo's leaving this week as well as the mom's who are left behind who are hurting but oh so proud!

Haley ships out Wednesday. My husband, son and I are heading up Wednesday morning to wait with her at MEPS and to see her sworn in. She left tonight to go stay with my sister who lives in Vancouver so that she could have a ride in. Disappointed my original plan couldn't happen, which was me driving her up Tuesday night and having dinner with her. I guess I just have to be satisfied that I will get to see her Wednesday for a good hug. So proud and excited for her, but sad for me.

I will just sit tight and wait for my "I MADE IT CALL" and later on this week look forward to recieving "THE BOX"

Ok so I got THE BOX today.... there I am going thru all of his stuff and dirty civilian clothes that he wore for 2 days throwing everything on the floor and realizing they sent me home laundry... just when I thought it was over :-) At least I know he's there.... I have another son up in Nantucket in the Coast Guard, so I can relate to all you are going through as well as myself all over again !! Never gets easier, I think about him every day and I know he's OK !

Hello everyone, today my son left to GL what a long day it was very emotional on my part, he is on his flight as I post this. The hours spent with him in MEPS were precious, we laughed, we cried, reminised about his birth and baby years. . . I will miss him dearly, as he begins his new journey. I'm so proud of him.

Thanks, that gives me some ideas. I can make it to MEPS in about 40 minutes, I guess they will tell him when he arrives there. Just a night and a wake-up left!

Hello Navy moms! My son leaves tomorrow for boot camp. It's been an emotional day, as I am sure you all can understand. We are having breakfast just the two of us tomorrow - I am hoping I can keep it together!
Comment by Connorsmom(Ship11Div300)PIR9/2 on July 12, 2010 at 8:20pm
Morgan, good luck to you. Thanks for being willing to listen to all the moms and share your point of view. I hope my son has some positive people around like you when he arrives at BC.
Maureen62- Beautiful family picture!
I seem to be able to cry at the drop of a hat today. I don't want to cry at the swearing in tomorrow, so I guess I am trying to do it all today. Most of them really are "happy tears". We all worked so hard to get them ready to go out on their own. Knowing other moms are having the same mixed feelings helps!
Still not sure about how we know exactly when he will swear in - does anybody have any info on that? When will he find out? My son does not want me to call his recruiter again.
