This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in July...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of July of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Good morning to everyone! I get away from my computer for 1 day and I realize how much I depend on hearing from everyone! I"m so glad Morgan's mom is on now too, she truly has raised a great daughter. My son, Connor, leaves on the 13th also and these last few days are precious. Trying to take care of all the details keeps me busy, but it is hard to catch my breath when I realize how quickly the countdown is going. Connor continues to "talk" about packing up his room, but not much happening. He was never one to care much about order in his room. I guess BC will turn that right around for him! Everyone here has given me great information and support. I thoroughly enjoy all the conversations! Makes me smile and sometimes laugh out loud.

Ginny: The Navy has a way of knocking that "attitude" right out of them...don't worry! My son tested his boundaries when he first arrived...he got straight REAL fast. The common advice to new recruits is: Keep your mouth shut and do what you are told! Seems simple to me, but some may choose to deviate from that a little...at least, they try!

Thank you everyone for the kind hearted comments, it really does mean a lot knowing that I am not going at this alone. Yeah I can hear Morgan when she reads this, and I'm sure she will "I told you Mom". Thanks again and I will continue posting as I / We go through this journey.

My son leaves July 8 to go to Boot camp. It was back in August last year he decided to join. Time sure has traveled fast. Does anyone else have son/daughter leaving around there?

Sara: I applaud your husband for being so financially conservative! That is wonderful that he will be monitoring your son that way. So many of these new Sailors have money burning in their pocket and spend it foolishly. All will be made to take a financial class in A School to try and teach them....but bottom line, they need LOTS of guidance. I heard stories from my son of guys who ran out and bought brand new cars in A School....pretty fancy ones! I am proud that my son has always been a good saver (working since he was 17) and therefore I only have to provide "saving guidance" every now and then. So glad that your son is getting lessons taught to him from home on this to start his adult life out with good financial knowledge!

jmy37mom: I "feel your pain" since I too am a single mom...and last Nov, when both boys moved out at the same time (my youngest leaving for bc), I also was living alone for the first time in my life! I will tell you...it is an adjustment and not easy....but I don't mind it now, and you do adjust. I have my two wonderful dogs here, who are my 'kids" and company! You'll be ok! This site will be a tremendous help to you!

Mary, I am one of the moms on here who is "further down the road." My son graduated bc in Feb, "A" School in April, and is stationed in VA. now I'm here to tell you that you are in for a journey of lots of emotions. Ups, downs, but a great journey. Stay on this site, join boot camp moms group, and your PIR group once she leaves and you find out what it is. You will be so proud of your daughter! And you will get the support you need right nere on N4M's! Welcome!

Hi Everyone, my name is Mary and my daughter has been bugging me to finally start talking with people on this site. I signed up a few months ago, but found it hard to read everyone's stories that are now becoming my reality. My daughter Morgan who you may have spoke with leaves on 7/13. It is just pulling on every possible heart string that I have knowing how much I am going to miss her. I am so very proud of her and so happy that she is following her dreams, but not quite as excited as she is about leaving. So here I am, reaching out to those that are going through the same feelings as I am I'm sure. I look forward to communicating with several of you as we work through this process together. Looking for friends near and afar to communicate with as we go through this journey together.

These POA's are very powerful legal documents. My son was nervous about doing one because he had talked to recruits whose family members were taking money from their accounts on their own. My son knows me well and how I handle finances...his father died 9 yrs ago when he and his brother were just teenagers...so he knows how I handle things and knows I would NEVER take his money. But unfortunately, there may be fsome amily members who are not so honest. So it does need to be talked about honestly with your recruit. There are also "specialized" POA's with expiration dates that may suffice.

Mary, Talk to the recruiter about Dereck not wanting the POA, etc. See if he can talk to him. D may not understand the importance of it.
