Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hugs to all of you. We had a long drive today, but made it to Boise safely. My son checked into the hotel and then we went to dinner together. We had to keep it short as he had to attend a briefing at the hotel not long after we arrived. We said our good nights and drove to where MEPS is so we wouldn't have trouble finding it in the morning. We got a hotel room close to the airport, so we could find it easily too. Trying to settle in and hopefully sleep tonight.

Navy Mom Hugs to you all. WE GOT THIS!

Having an emotional day today and he does not leave for 9 days! I just finished making him a book on Shutterfly which I am sure triggered this but my gosh, this is going to be so hard even though I am just 20 minutes down the road from Great Lakes! Maybe I will do drive bys to catch a glimpse..LOL!

@mamag3....next Wednesday I take him to the recuiter and they will give me the run down of the process for MEPS but I leave there without him. I will see him at MEPS the next day but am already crying just reading these posts. I'm probably just going to have to go park somewhere afterwards and just let it all out!!

@lamtheboyscouts I feel the same way. I take my son to drop him off on July 9th and don't plan to go the office that day but do feel the need to put it out there so they know I am okay...just having a moment! I tear up as I write this!!

We are preparing to send our son off for a 7/8 ship date. It hasn't hit me yet but I have warned everyone at work and home that tears can flow for any reason.

Anyone having swearing in at the nasville, TN MEPS Wednesday?
Comment by lemonelephant on June 30, 2014 at 2:20pm

nurse0419, you will get used to the new normal. Be good to yourself. Stay busy--take up a new hobby or renew one that you have let lapse, stay connected with those at home and friends, stay connected with others on here who are going through the same thing, stay connected with your recruit--write often (start by writing an encouraging note to put in his wallet and then keep writing after he leaves so you have letters ready to go when you get the form letter with his address), stay informed--there is A LOT of info for you Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and later in your PIR group and I have given you info on your future Sailor's field.

nurse0419 - I remember when we took our son to MEPS... in our son's case, it would have been a long and boring day if we had not joined him.  There was a lot of sitting around for (for hours at a time).

Plus the swearing in ceremony is something you really want to see (and videotape)!

I know you will be a mess if you go (we all are), but you can let your son know you will be a mess if you don't go too!
