Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

derby1011 I am in the same boat! My son leaves us to head to MEPS on July 9th and he has been constantly on the go hanging with friends. Luckily we had his HS graduation party this past Saturday so it was good timing tfor him to say farewell to family that day. He enlisted last August and I just can't believe the time is finally here. This is his last weekend home so I told him to live it up!!

This is my son's last week at home. His grandmother flew up from Florida to see him and spend time with everyone. He's seems to be constantly on the go this last week. I hope he slows down just a little. My 15 yo is getting upset with him cause he's not home enough for him. Gma and I get that he's trying to spend time with everyone. We are having a bonfire and BBQ on the 4th for his anchors aweigh party. I work so late this last week but I have a 4 day weekend coming. Like all of you I am so proud and nervous.

I am still trying to figure out all these groups and how to follow all this and it's kinda overwhelming, lol. Today is my last day with my son before he leaves tomorrow.. I am so very proud but at the same time I feel like my heart is being torn out of my chest, ahhhhh. Will this pain ever get better???

CINDY, your Sailor can use a cell phone while on Liberty, but will not be able to take it back to the RTC. You will have to give that to your Sailor at the airport. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend for more info on how to plan your weekend and what your new Sailor can have.

Was wondering, if after graduation, can we give our recuits their cell phones, or only at the airport when they fly out?

@sierrascrapper wow...you just put in words exactly how I'm feeling! I have 5 days...except 3 of those he will be at his dads for one last weekend. As much as I want to squeeze every last second with him I know his dad deserves this time with him too. Mine is ready to go now too, he says he knows it's gonna be hard really hard at nuke school so that is what he's more concerned about but I told him his grades and intelligence got him this far...he can do this!!! At least he's looking past the bc!! And you are so right....this is HIS dream but I'm going to enjoy watching him live it! Hugs to everyone this close to the journey too!

Geez...with only 3 days left, I don't know what I'm feeling anymore.  I'm SUPER excited...a little scared...a little worried...not sure if I'm sad because I'm so proud...I just can't decide.  Each emotion passes so quickly that I can't determine what I'm feeling inside.  I really am EXCITED more than anything.  I know that may sound a bit foreign to you all, but this is such a GREAT thing that our kids are doing. They are getting an incredible opportunity to learn a trade and be paid to learn it.  And...they get the sense of pride for serving our country along with it too!  I am so happy my son made this decision to join the Navy.  I know I'm going to have lots of sad moments, I know I'm going to miss him, but I also know that he is living his dream.  He is getting to go out into the world and experience life. Remember what it was like when we were 18 and wanted to start out on our own paths?  Just remember how incredible that felt as young adult...that's how our kids feel.  My son is so ready to go.  That helps me feel so much better about it too.  I think it would be much harder if he was having second thoughts. Hugs to each and every one of you.  This is going to be quite the ADVENTURE!

mom1994 my son  also leaves July 28th.  My biggest concern is if he knows the sentry orders, etc.  Other than that, we're pretty much ready as can be.

Comment by lemonelephant on June 26, 2014 at 6:56pm

The future Sailors have a 30 day check and a 7 day check approximately one week (it's up to 10 days before the ship date and seldom less than 4 days before) before the ship date, so your future Sailors will be hearing from their recruiters soon to set that up.

Oh goodness mom1994. Enjoy this last month with him. Make every moment count but also give him some breathing room to spend with his friends before he leaves. That way you won't be disappointed and he will be happy too. (((NMH)))
