DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in July

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in July...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of July of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Latest Activity: Jun 27, 2023

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Appreciate the info jmy! my son was thinking about buying a lap top while he attends A school there. I will definitely pass on the info to him. Today was our last day together. :( We made him a special dinner then his cousins took him to the movies. His aunt came by with ice cream sundae's and now he's at the casino. He thinks he'll be able to turn what money he has left into thousands.....silly kid! Tomorrow is grandma is taking him to lunch before he goes downtown. She said she wanted him all to herself for a couple of hours. Anyway, he has been fed up to his eyeballs with "special dinners". I think we have all his things checked off the list of things to take so now all I have left to do is hold myself together until he's gone.

Ginny, I agree with everyone else's post here. What beautiful children you have! And I'm sure they are as kind and wonderful on the INSIDE as they are on the OUTSIDE! This picture is the kind to "blow up" and frame, giving it a "special place" in your home!

Yes, virually all sailor can go to Iraq and Aganistan under the Navy Individual Augmentation (IA) process. Depending on the rating, some have a better chance of going than others. Most are voluntering to go. It's a pride thing with us sailors. There is an old saying from the Marines it says, "The Marines have their few good men......they're called Navy Corpsman".
Here is a link to the IA handbook they give to the sailors. https://acc.dau.mil/CommunityBrowser.aspx?id=34072

Haven't posted in a few days but i'm here ...i read and think and think and read but so far i'm keeping my emotions in check . I don't know how much of that will last the closer we get to the "big day" lol...Marquise leaves on the 27th (just 16 days away...wow) He hasn't shown much signs of nerves or anything , he keeps talking about a car and we keep saying sweethearttttttttttttt you don't need a car right now your about to leave ....so in a way i am not sure reality has hit him yet , i'm sure he will realize what has really happened once he gets to the airport headed for Great Lakes and not a min before . To all of you who have seen your Deppers off already I pray that you will have comfort in knowing we are all here for you ....Keep practicing smiling because before you know it your son/daughters PIR date will be here .

God Bless your daughter, PeggyM. Please tell her that many "Navy for Moms" moms will be praying for her and her division. Also remind her about no mail delivery for the first 2 weeks, and also that the second half gets much better than the first half.

Same to you, Morgan's Mom and all of the rest of the Deppers leaving this week! We are all on here to support your recruits!

today is our last family day, we are finishing up her packing and then will be spening the afternoon watching some movies, having a great dinner and then taking loads of pictures of courtney and her horse Freedom, her dog Mickey and her cats Holly and Sami. She is very anxious, nervous and excited for her journey to begin tomorrow, I'm not so excited, but anxious and nervous!!!We leave for the recruiters office tomorrow morning, then on to charlotte, and she goes to MEPS Tues am for final stuff and swearing in and then on to the airport, we are going along, to see her off. I can't stand it............ i will let you guys know how it all goes Wednesday............ looking forward to talking with you all and we can all share difficult times and good times for the next couple months and then hopefully get to meet up at PIR!! Go Navy!

Awesome poem KK.... thanks for sharing! It brought tears to my eyes but it pretty much sums it up. One more full day with my son...I'm soooo sad! I'm thinking and praying for all who are leaving this week. It won't be easy but anything worth sacrifice never is. Thanks Lorraine for the uplifting words. I'm glad to know it will get easier.

Had Morgan's going away party today. Great time with family and friends, but by far my roughest day yet! I wanted to thank everyone for coming and to keep Morgan in their thoughts and prayers, and to shout out how proud we are that she is fighting for our freedom, but couldn't get through the emotions to say it. My sister-in-law and cousin ordered me to stop crying because every time that I did they joined right in with me. My Brother and Sister-In-Law have a Son in the Army and know all about this journey as he was at Meps just over a year ago. Proud Proud Proud is what I am, but am having major difficulties holding it together. Tomorrow is our last full day with her as she leaves on Monday for the hotel early afternoon and GL on Tuesday! I don't know where the last 9 months have gone since she signed up...
