This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in July...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of July of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hello all. I sure wish I'd have found this before today! My son left yesterday and is officially at BC now. Looking forward to getting to know others of you. He's been a depper for the last year and is not a recruit. Congrats to the rest of you and I'll be praying for us all.

just heard from my son and he was so hyped up, he is at the airport waiting to fly to chicago and Air Force One landed and the President got off. He made the weight exactly. I just wanted to share the news with everyone.

Mary, sorry to hear about the deppers funeral, My thoughts and prayers will go out to the deppers. I am waiting to hear from my son about getting to the airport. I keep telling my self that no news is good news. I was worried about his weight being under. He is 5'7" and weighs around 125.

Morning All

Thanks so much for all your words of encouragement. About the tixs for PIR. I have three children 12, 9 , 9 and then one son 16, Me , Hubby and my sons GF so that should be the 4 tickets I need. ( YES, big family lol)
jmy37....I live north of Memphis, so we wont be able to see one another but perhaps our children will be together in BC :) We'll have to see what ship/Div they are in huh ? Would be nice though.
Dont know if he will participate in the church services but he has a GF, so Im hoping my letters are too limited.
Im going to double check about having dinner with him after he checks into the hotel. I dont see why they wouldnt let them have dinner that night with family. They arent in prison lol.
I dont think that my son will be a grad and go cause his Corpsman A school is right there in GL's.
Was thinking of all the moms who had to let go yesterday....how are you all doing ?
I think David will do really well in BC. He was in Sea Cadets and he is prepared both mentally and phyiscally as much as I believe he can be. He knows his ranks, knows how to march, knows the 11 orders of the something or other ( I can never remember that)....I keep testing him and he does know them although I told him hope he doesnt " mumble" them like he does to me lol. I DOUBT they would let him mumble lol.
Sobe...thank you so much for the hotel info and I will pop into some of the other groups just to learn some more :) Appreciate that.
Ginny....will be here for you my friend and we'll all get through this " letting go" time together !! I know, Ive seen some of Davids things and it gets me all choked up as well.
Mary...thank you, Will check out the blogs. So sorry to hear that they have to go to a funeral tonight for that depper in a car accident. Kind of puts things in perspective though doesnt it ? Im complaining about son going off to BC. Imagine what that mother is going through.
I think the coloring book idea is a perfect one !! Kids of all ages love to color and it makes any trip easier !!
Will check back in a little later on friends. Have a great day !!

Mary(dereksmom)~They don't give out tickets for graduation(PIR), they just let the RDC know the names of four people that will be attending. Yes children 12 and younger don't require their names on the list to attend. However though there is usually enough space for almost everyone to get a seat they just have to wait to be seated that is the only difference. So you really don't have to worry!!

Maureen 62: The Ramada has "family size" rooms with three beds, however I don't know if the bathroom is bigger. If you went with a suite at a different chain, you would get more bathrooms - or just ask for connecting rooms.

My son has only been out of bc for a month, but it's all still fresh in my warped mind! Tell your DEP's that they won't get letters from you for at least 2 weeks - but not because you are not writing, it just takes that long to catch up with them. Once they do start getting mail, they can receive it 6 days a week, just like we do at home. However.... they can only write letters on Sundays - and if they use part of that morning to go to Sunday services, those letters will be short like mine were! And if they have a girlfriend, even shorter to us moms. My standard statement is: Girlfriend trumps Mom every time! So make friends with their GF's or BF's and share information!!!

The number one thing to tell them is: Work as a team - ALWAYS!!! It's all for one and one for all. If one fails or doesn't learn something, they all pay for it. They will learn that helping their shipmate (even if they don't like him) will pay off big in the end. Pop into some of the PIR groups that are still in bc and see what I mean!

Give them plenty of love and hugs, they may snub you in public now if you did this, but believe me, they REALLY miss their family in bc and you will see a changed person at PIR!

Here are some links to two new PIR groups. Once you find out which PIR date your new recruit has, join that group - you will love the warmth and knowledge you will undoubtely receive!

PIR 8/20/10
PIR 8/27/2010

And if you get a letter with a note that says "I am a Grad & Go", join that group to get answers - or join now to be prepared! Grad & Go Info

To all the mom's that had to "let go" today, my heart goes out to you! I'm thankful I have 5 more days. My son also went to his last Dep meeting today. I'm having a hard time thinking about what's coming down the pike. I'm sure my family thinks I should be on bi-polar medicine since I can't decide on whether I want to be happy or sad. I found this pic of the penquins and thought how perfect it was since I have three boys.....no....i should say little men. So I live with them and a husband, so, no tears allowed here....no sir! So, I have to blink back the tears and smile because i don't think any of them want to deal with their mother/wife crying. Thank goodness for this site and my mom or I don't think I could make it. I hope i'm as brave as you all seem to have been. We'll be having dinner with him on his night at MEPS and we'll go see him sworn in, but i'm definitely not going to the airport. I can't handle that! I think people in airport frown on mom's pushing their faces in the window and waving while they're sobbing! I'm sure all future navy mom's would have to be escorted to a private building after I had done my damage. Bottom line, I'm going to do everything in my power to keep from crying. I don't want that to be the last thing he see's on my face when he goes. Lord help me!

Hi All

Well my son has his last Dep meeting today, paperwork tomorrow. Now I asked him about having dinner with him once he gets to the hotel next week but he says he believes he cant leave once he's there. I dont know. Still need to get the recruiters number from him too. We are going to the swearing in and then i guess we get to stay with him a little while before they take him to the airport. Im NOT going to the airport, even if they let us. Will be hard enough.
For some of you that are close to PIR, are you finding any good hotels to stay at in GL ? I have a big family ( there will be 6 of us) and Id like a hotel with an indoor pool if someone knows of any.
Thanks Ginny, I also joined your FB group :)
Night all !! Hugs to those that are having a hard time
