@ Stephkid2inDEP AKA Liz'sMom. This is the one place, everyone gets it. Our son shipped Thursday 7/9. I go from crying to wanting to yell/scream/beat anyone up who says it was a good idea. (It was, it'll be fantastic for him and it's what he wanted). I saved an image about Navy Moms, and the last line was along the line of "no, it's not the same when your kid leaves for college". We live in a society that wants to quantify everything and we want to be #1 in all things, even in our grief. I have two friends who lost children this year, one in the last 3 weeks (not Navy related). Part of me slaps myself in the head for being so sad. "How can I be so sad, look what poor Susan is going through". My point (and I do have one)- your grief is your grief. Someone having worse grief doesn't take yours away. Deal with it, it will get better (I'm hoping so). We get it, it's hard. They will be ok and eventually so will we. We taught them how to fly, now it's their turn to soar. Here if you need a shoulder!

My husbands recruiter looked him up in the system yesterday morning. He is Ship 11 DIV 290 and his PIR Date says 9/4/15. No form letter yet but surely the recruiter's info is correct in the system at least I hope it is as my plane tickets are non-refundable.

I have now gotten conflicting info on Divisions 289 and 290 with PIR being reported as 08/28/2015 by some and 09/04/2015 by at least one. If you have received The Form Letter for either of those divisions, what is the PIR date? Thanks

Yes, recruiters sometimes have the address soon after shipping, but wait on The Form Letter before sending mail.

Reasons to wait on The Form Letter:

1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.

2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.

3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.

Note: If it has been at least 2 calendar weeks since your recruit arrived at the RTC and you do not have a form letter, then you can call the recruiter and get the address and mail letters to your recruit, but be sure to double-check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works.

Hope its the right info Momofasailor. FINAL processing normally takes a week. Just a little surprised that he would have his permanent assignment after 2 days. Most ft o thru a few temporary assignments.

Often times, the recruiter releases the info too soon.....before it changes. Read some of the other threads listed on the main page regarding relying on EARLY info from the recruiters/Petty Officers.

I would hate for your letters to get delayed. I know it's hard to wait....but really try to wait for the FORM LETTER.

I do hope the info is right. I know how hard the waiting is. My son left on 7/1 and his ship/division # has a changed twice. Hang in there!

My son is DIV 294 shipped on July 8th. Anyone have a child in that DIV? USS Triton.

Today I got my son's mailing info, the recruitment office called and gave it to me, amazing Petty Officer. He left on Wednesday, I thought I was going to have to wait 2 weeks. Yea!

what do the different divisions mean, like 294 and 287 and such?  i still have heard nothing at all.  I am so anxious to get his address to write....

I Hear you Steph,

I had an emotional moment last night and of course the hubby calls right then. He told me I need to get it together. It made me angry. I feel that he doesn't understand.
