My son went to MEPS yesterday and headed to boot camp this morning. I talked to him last night while he was at the hotel. Now waiting on his "final" call. I can't belive this day is here.

I had a small mini breakdown. Really missing him so much. But I did as you said and wrote him letters and felt better....just ready to get box and form letter. Glad we are here for each other
I had my breakdown in the grocery store of all places -- dropped him off with the recruiter on the 12th to go to the motel and went to the grocery store. As I walked through the store it hit me. Kept thinking 'don't need that', don't need that' and that's when I started crying. Walking through Kroger looking like a crazy lady I'm sure. Even knowing we would see him Tuesday morning to watch him swear in--which was so GREAT, it still made me sad to know my baby wouldn't be home for dinner for a while. I got his phone call around 1:30 am Tuesday night-Wednesday morning and now I'm just waiting for the letter and the box. I started writing in journal and that seems to help. So far I've written each day with whats on my mind -- figure he will read it one day.
Ours called at 2:30 am est time..... actually good time to call bc I was still asleep and couldn't ask any questions but said I love you.
Glad to hear that I am not the only one sobbing. Like you said- I thought I was all good to go till I was giving my daughter the last hug before she boarded the plane to GL. I started balling like a 2 year old! But I did speak with her on the bus to the airport, at the airport (BWI, flight delayed twice on Tuesday due to thunderstorms in Chicago), when she finally landed in Chicago and then her last call to me around midnight on Wednesday. All of that and then last night I broke down as I tried to settle in to bed. Sobbed for literally like 30 minutes. It's hard because it's been just her and I for the last 18 years- entire life built around her. So I while I know she's off to bigger and better things it's tough not being able to at least check in. Totally will be checking the mail everyday like a crazy person :)
I so feel your pain already Keigan and I am not there yet. My daughter leaves next week June 27th. I raised her mostly by myself the last 18 years, my only child, and her leaving is killing me already. I am happy for her adventure but I cant believe she is leaving :(
My son leaves June 27th! Know I will be with you in spirit crying my eyes out. He's my only child also so I know exactly how you feel.
Feel free to message me when they leave if you want to let it all out! Every time I think about it I have to try and stop the tears.
I'm with you....didn't have to work today and went grocery shopping. I did the same thing....don't need to buy that etc. I didn't cry but I was thinking...I must look sad. I got my call Thursday 442 am. I have been through this before 8 years ago. I'm much stronger this time. I have no expectations because I have learned to not plan on anything with the military. Everything works out on their time. So I feel less anxious knowing this. But the prayers are pumping for my son and all the people that surround him. They all need each other.

It hit me in the store as well as I did the weekly grocery shopping at our local Fry's (Kroger’s). I went to go pick up certain foods, buy the normal amount of foods, and end up putting half it back. I got up to the regular cash out person and she made a comment that I my son was not with me like normal (it was normal for him to come and talk with me while I shopped). I ended up having tears come to my eyes and as they slip down, I told her that my son left for BC. She reached over, touched my hand, and told me thank you for raising a son who wants to serve. Time I got out to my truck I was crying. You are not alone for sure.
Joni
Your son is with mine. He got to BC on Monday night as well. Thinking of him all the time!
