Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son left for GL on the 19th. I agree with you that it was the hardest thing I've ever done. When I came back home the house just felt so desolate. I bought my Navy blue candle and as soon as I get home from work I light it. I think of him and what he might be doing ALL THE TIME Even at work, I can't concentrate. This wasn't very encouraging was it? :(

I feel the same way you do. My husband and me went to a bed and breakfast three hours away for two nights just to get away. I wake up at night and can't get back to sleep as I am thinking and praying for my daughter. I have started a on going letter that tells her about my days since she left. When get her address it will ready to go.

My Son arrived in GL on the 20th also, his twin sister is really struggling with him being gone and I'm not sure how to handle it, because I'm also having a hard time. I realize its only been a few days, and I hope it gets easier. This is the first time they have ever been apart... Does anyone have any suggestion? Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, today is my first day on here, I just got approved.. Lol

My son arrived at GL on the 13th. Does it get easier? I don't know about that but I have stopped crying as much. I think about him constantly and miss him so very much. I've been writing him every day and I think that helps, even though I don't have his address I still write him. It sort of makes me feel closer to him. Plus finding this site and reading how other mothers are feeling exactly how I am helps too. We're all in it together and we will make it. I haven't found a blue candle yet, BirdsOfAFeather. Where did you find yours? Hang in there y'all.

My son said that he didn't want letters because he heard you can get a lot of grief from getting letters, but I might write him anyway. Because I think after the realization hits that he misses home, they will be a good surprise!

Everything I've been reading on this site encourages you to send letters. Just don't send pretty colored envelopes with decorations and things on them. I know on one of the groups here are Navy Moms that will write to sailors whom they have found out are not receiving any mail. I've already got 2 letters ready to go as soon as I get the address. Just little short encouraging notes and I put a cartoon in each one to make him laugh.
