My son is leaving March 1st. He is my middle son and the first to join the military. His older brother has since decided to join and as of now is leaving in Sep 2016.  Emotions are high for this momma but I am so beyond proud.  His father and I have always felt he would be military or police, so I have always expected this. The reality is an adjust though =) The final countdown is on, we have just over a week. We have done a lot of preparation and I have been reading a lot of good information on here.  I think we have covered everything and are as physically prepared as we can be. Emotionally - I know this a great step for him and one he wants but the closer it gets the more I am struggling with the idea of him being gone.  He will be attending A school in Great Lakes.  I trust that the Lord opened this door and he will protect my son and give me peace while he is away!

I look forward to getting to know some you who will have loved ones at boot camp with my son!  We are enjoying these last few days of having him home.

Does anyone have any advice that is not  in http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/things-to-do-in-the-last-mo...

hello, momof2sailors! wow, 2 children in the military. did the other one enlist in Navy as well? yes, you have a lot to be proud of.

i think that post has most everything covered. i really cant think of anything else. just do what youre doing: enjoy his remaining time at home.

we just threw a farewell cookout for my son this past saturday. he ships out march 2 from texas. we're in the same boat as far as being highly emotional right now. bitter-sweet, wouldnt you agree? on the one hand, im sad cause i will miss him. on the other hand, my heart bursts with pride. hang in there and blessings =)

hello sailormom, Yes my oldest also decided to join the Navy he signed just 2 weeks ago, he is in DEP and is currently scheduled to leave Sep 13th.

That is awesome, we have a big family dinner planned this coming weekend at one of his favorite local restaurants.

I am extremely proud but absolutely this is bitter sweet.  He has come down with a nasty cold the last 48 hours so we are just praying he is feeling better and this doesn't cause any problems at MEPS next week.

Maybe our boys will be in boot camp together! Blessing to you and your son! Enjoy these special few days!

My son is leaving March 2nd from Connecticut. I am having a very hard time with him leaving and i am very worried about bootcamp. We are having a party for him this Saturday

hi, jdtm94. i understand. if you havent already, read a lot of the posts/articles on here. and watch some videos. that helped me. knowing about some of what will be happening eased my nerves a bit. i hope it does for you. and keep posting and venting here; i have found everyone on here to be very understanding and helpful. we are all in the same boat (pun intended).

like momof2sailors says, our sons will most likely be at boot camp together. bonds will definitely be formed.

yesterday we were at the recruiter's office for some last minute q&a. (i tried so hard not to cry, and failed miserably lol)

he used those exact words: bonds will definitely be formed.

and that comforts me. to know that my son will be surrounded by people that right now he doesnt know, but with whom he will eventually form a tight bond.

momof2sailors, i am praying for your son's health.

blessings to you both. =)

Thank you sailormom. My son always goes to the recruiter alone I wish he would have let me go. It is comforting to know that i will be able to talk with other moms whose sons will be with mine.i have been doing alot of reading i think what worries me the most is not being able to speak to him for long and know if he is ok. Where will your son go to a school?

jdtm4, I completely feel your pain. My son goes to all his meetings with the recruiter alone also.  The recruiter did tell him she needs to speak to me when we drop him off for the trip to MEPS on Tuesday.  He has been very good to ask questions I wanted answers to =)

Sailormom, I also am grateful that our boys will be forming lifelong bonds.  I am excited for the new experiences awaiting our young men!

I certainly look forward to the support of speaking with other moms on here over the next few weeks especially. I know they will be hard but I also know we will survive this - after all we are about to be official NAVY MOMS!!! =)

Mom of 2 sailors the recruiter is picking my son up on Wednesday and I hope to talk to her then.  Where is MEPS for your son?

jdtm94 - MEPS is @ Fort Lee for us.  His Dad, Little Brother, Girl friend and myself will be attending his Swearing in Wed morning.

Hi momof2sailors - my son arrived at bootcamp Tuesday night March 1st.  Ive stopped crying and am just feeling like time is standing still!!  I have a heart attack every time my phone rings even though it's not time for him to call.  I am writing him letters already and will mail them all when I receive his address.  It's only been 4 days now and it feels like a MONTH! So glad to have this site to read other stories and share mine.  I've learned a lot on here as my son didn't share everything.  I think he needed to be independent and do this all by himself, just wish I had educated myself a little earlier, but oh well.  I guess it will all work out!  I cannot wait to see him come thru those doors in GL.

Jeanne, I know it has only been a few days but it does feel like forever.  My son has been away from home before but not where I couldn't check on him at all.  That is the worst part.  If he could just call or text to say that he was ok I would feel better I think!  So ready for PIR and watching them all march in. And getting to hug his neck.

We received our recruits box yesterday!  Still waiting on the letter so we can start sending mail!!

I received the box yesterday too! I was so excited to receive it.  Was disappointed they sent his envelopes and paper home, but at least he was able to keep the stamps.  oh well.  It quickly turned from excitement to sad when you know there is nothing in there but their clothes, cell phone, etc.  I was glad to get it though.  Now I know there is no mix-up on an address, he IS actually still there and probably ok. lol  I am such a worrier.  Ready for the form letter with his address now so I can mail these letters!
