Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My Son leaves March 30th

Hello!! I've been lurking for awhile, now I feel the urgency to jump in. Our son leaves in 30 days. March seemed so far away back in September. I'm thankful he was home for the holidays because we do not know where he will be this Thanksgiving and Christmas. My son did a couple years of college and decided last spring to make the change to join the Navy. We are very proud of him! However, like other moms I'm feeling a bit nervous, anxious, excited and proud. We are giving him a send off party with family and friends. I have cried many times at just the very thought of not seeing him for eight weeks and waiting on his calls. Awaiting the PIR date is nerve racking, due to being an OCD planner, Lol!

I'm so thankful for this support group!

Hi! My son's ship date is 3/30, so our countdown is the same.  We are feeling the reality of it all with this 1-month-to-go milestone upon us!  Hearing my son explain tonight to his younger brothers (elementary school age) that he may not see them for a year was heart-breaking!  

I also wish we could know the PIR date now.  We are about a 14 hour drive and it could be an expensive weekend with airfare/transportation/hotel/missed work for such a short visit... but I am looking forward to seeing him as it's a special day and he'll be in school in FL for several months.  

It is an exciting time, though, and we have much to be proud of and look forward to as they become sailors.

Hi Mom2SL,
Yes, we do have much to look forward to and be proud of. My son is excited to move on with his life as a Sailor. The dates lemonelephant gave us, are the dates that I came up with to try and price flights, hotel, etc. I hope it's the 29th, the 22nd is a holiday weekend. Things may be more expensive. BUT, whatever the date or cost....we will be there!! My son is going to FL for school as well.

PIR will either be 05/22/2015 or 05/29/2015 depending on if your then recruit is placed in one of the last divisions from the week before and is in a Push Division or is placed in a division from that week's TG. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

My son leaves March 10, and I'm feeling some of those same feelings. We did have a big going-away bash for him last week. Unfortunately a big snowstorm hit just hours before the party and we got about 7 inches of snow in a short time. I didn't think anyone would be able to make it, but we had more than 100 people show up -- makes me wonder how many would have shown if it hadn't been horrible out! It was a wonderful time with friends and family -- nothing fancy, had it in a comunity art space, threw up some balloons and mini flags and his big Navy banner that we had people sign at his high school graduation last spring, and asked some friends to help cook. My son was overwhelmed with the outpouring of gratitude in his honor. And the party planning gave me something to do so I wouldn't think about his leaving. PIR uncertainties are making me crazy already too! Let's hang in there -- together!

That's awesome about the participation at your son's going away bash considering the weather. We are giving our son a send off party as well, I like the banner idea! I'm ready for this winter to be over, but I don't want to rush this month. After March 30th , I will be ready to rush April and May, lol.Yes, let's hang in there (and here) together.....thank God for this website and those who facilitate!
