My son sent his belongings to his father, my ex.  His father tells me today that the box arrived, but that there was not a form letter in it.  Is that possible?  I mean of course it is, but what are the odds?  Shouldn't there be information for us about PIR and what division he is in?

My son's box and form letter came separately...The box came from Fedex and the letter came thru the mail.

I just got my son's box of belongings today and there wasn't a letter either. I believe the letter comes seperately. I was actually expecting the letter before receiving the box.

Hi DP -- Yes, that's typical.   The box comes from your SR before they even know what Ship they're assigned to, so your son probably didn't even know his assignment and address at that time.   You (or your ex, wherever your son sends it) should receive the form letter within about 10 days of your SR's arrival at GL.

To give you an idea, my son arrived Tuesday 11.10, I received the box on Friday 11.13, and the form letter on Saturday 11.21.  So for me the letter took a bit longer than 10 days.  To date I have not had a phone call or any personal letters.

Thank you for your responses.  I realize now I was mistaken.  I guess I am just anxious for news and dates and information and was a bit depressed about no form letter.  I think I overreacted and now need to apologize to my ex  :)

I just miss him!

I understand completely.   I was thrilled to get the letter, just to see his handwriting, although it was on "The Box" too.   Plus, once you know his addy, you can send him letters.  :)

Exactly, some sort of communication.  I feel like a fool now...I just knew that there was going to be that letter in that box!!!  :)

I'm not sure how my son's box came as I was at work. I nkow it was delivered according to my daughters. His form letter did come a couple days later. It seems to be typical.

Form letter is sent separately- for us about a week behind!
My exact situation. Ex says no letter either. Thanks for the information!!
