My daughter leaves for boot camp in nine days. The time has flown since she moved her date up from an original departure of December. We have not had near enough time for all of the discussions I'd hoped we have. She has spent as much time as possible with friends which has helped her. Nine days to go before my best friend leaves...

I'll pray for you and your wait and am certain you'll be proud to see him when he graduates

Hi Missy's Mom - my daughter too leaves to BC on the 20th ~ From NY

Have you experienced all of the emotions encompassed by such a decision? I know I'm more sensitive and fragile this week even though I'm extremely proud of my daughter's decision.

Well let just say I work up and cried this morning  LOL...  then I cried again tonight - so your not alone

I am new here. My daughter leaves from NM in exactly one week! It's been a whirlwind with her in the last year. She just made the decision to join the Navy this past May. We've all just kind of ignored it I guess. Her father is very proud of her. But the rest of us are very sad. Her brother and sister will miss her dearly. And me?...well I have very mixed emotions. I will miss my oldest child tremendously. Having been able to talk to her every day for her whole 20 years. Not really sure how I feel about the armed services honestly. Lots of mixed feelings. Decided to not even try to wear make-up this week. I'm sure it will get better some day. Right?

Hi Brinsmom, Yes it will get better, My Son Enlisted almost 3 years ago and just has his 2 year anniversary in October.  It is very strange when they first leave.  about a week after they leave the box comes in the mail, they will have to send home thier clothing, shoes, coats, phones etc...., then the form letter comes with their mailing address,  PIR (graduation date)  and parking pass info for graduation day,  and they will be able to write a short note on the bottom.  about 3 weeks after they leave is when the first call "typically" comes. at BC, no news is good news.  after they leave BC and head to A school, they will have their phones and computers,  communication will start up again.

I can honeslty say that the Navy has been a wonderful choice for my Son, I sent a boy to BC and a Man was returned to me 8 weeks later, I look at some of his peers now and Im so thankful that he made this decision to enlist it has been a wonderful experience for our family.  I've had many discussion with him regarding my daughter choice and at first he was not at all for it... but as time went on that has changed and he is supportive now.   My Daughter and I have always been close, but when he left it even brought us closer.  I will be very sad when she leaves,  it is quite an emotional roller coaster ride we about to get on.   I can honestly say that raising them was easy, letting them go,  that is the hard part.  we all leave the nest,  mine just happen to be 19 and 18 when they decided to leave and start this amazing jouney to serve our country, travel the world and get and education.

Luckily I have about 4 1/2 more years to get used to my son thinking about joining the service! :-) I guess it's totally different to me for my son. I'm not really that old fashioned just don't really think girls should be in the service I guess. I don't know.  I think perimenopause has messed up my brain!

My son leaves this Sunday, Novembe 18th with arrival date at BC on Monday, the 19th.  I have had my ups and downs.  I know this is what he really wants.  This is life changing - for all of us.  I know I have a lot of emotional days ahead.

My baby girl also leaves on the 19th. I've been holding it together pretty well, but I feel the panic welling up sometimes. I'm so proud, but I'm also so nervous.

This is hard!!  Praying for all the moms & wives.

I say goodbye to my son tomorrow.  He arrives at BC on the 19th.  We are celebrating an early Thanksgiving so we can celebrate with him.  This has already been a very hard day.
