Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of November (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have November ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in November, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son left for MEPS today and will fly to Great Lakes tomorrow. It was a very difficult day! I know that this is a wonderful experience for him and he will be a better, stronger person at the end, but I will miss him. It is the lack of communication that gets to me. I am looking forward to PIR. Good luck and God speed to all our children and family in all branches of the military!

We all have so much to be proud of...Yes, the sadness is beginning to hit us all, but, as my son said to me today, "It's not goodbye, Mom...I'll see you later!" The Navy will certainly "polish them until they shine" (to quote CodesMom). In the meantime, we have each other here to support and keep it all together until that glorious day of their PIR. Corey leaves for MEPS tomorrow, then off to Great Lakes on Tuesday after we see his "swearing in". We spent wonderful times together these days leading up to tomorrow and made precious memories he will carry with him in his heart. God Bless all of our new recruits as they begin the next chapter in their lives!

My son leaves on Tuesday November 16. We live in the Chicago area so he doesn't travel far. I have been reading this site, but not ready to start to write on it. I have been wondering where the time went and sad about all the things I wanted to do with him but look back and you will have so many memories. I am remembering the time spent. We as moms need to do to keep our family safe and together, so your job did that. As for the Thanksgiving Day events, look at the love that came together that day. Just focus on that.

Only a couple days now... he ships on the 17th too! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner Saturday despite my father-in-law rolling his car on the way up and my 4 yr old being up all night with croup! (which is why I'm on her at 2 am this morning!) We are supposed to be having our last Sunday in church as a "complete" family... boy how plans can change. If little guy is not well enough I'll be driving to MEPs myself Wed. morning. Very proud of my recruit and how well he handled his Grandpa's accident. My husband was in the middle of cooking our Thanksgiving dinner and I had the sick little guy so Code went to the State Police and then the Hospital to take care of things and pick up his Grandpa. He is already a wonderful young man... can't wait to see how the Navy polishes him until he shines!!! But... my heart is breaking to see him go too... I'm a working Mom and my husband is an at home Dad... I keep feeling like I missed out on age 5 through 19... because I have no idea where my precious little boy went. Hopefully the long weeks of boot camp will go just as fast!

Well. it's been a productive, sad and happy last couple of days. My husband and I went to Chicago MEPS to watch our son get sworn in today. So I am signing out of this group for now. Thanks to all who have gone before me and blessings to all of you who wait for your children to leave this month. I am grateful for all the information I have gotten from this group.
