Latest Activity: Jul 20, 2023

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of November (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have November ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in November, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

BigMosMom, Some send the notes written at or before the party to the recruit throughout BC to encourage the recruit.

BTW, BST is the acronym for Battle Stations-21 (BST), the final test at BC before the recruit becomes a Sailor.

BigMosMom, I thought my husband was leaving June 13th, so I had a surprise going away party for him a couple weekends ago. It was great! I bought card stock and had everyone write him words of encouragement, or favorite memories, and he loveeed it! (I also took pictures with a Polaroid, so I can make him a small scrapbook with the notes and the pictures.) So I'm sure your son will enjoy that very much! Maybe have some paper/pen ready the day of your party for people who didn't have a chance to write something down. Your theme sounds fun! You guys will have a great time!

We are having a monthly barbecue next month through departure for boot camp so friends and family have a chance to say goodbye to our son before he leaves.  Anyone have anything special that they are doing with their recruits?

And for his going away party, we are having a "Dress Like A Sailor" party where everyone will bring a letter of encouragement for him to read the day before he leaves for BST.

My husband was set to leave June 13th, but just got a new ship date of November 21st. I guess I get more time with him, and gives him more time to prepare.

My son is leaving November 2nd for BC as an SH (Ship's Serviceman).  He is older but this is his first official time leaving the nest.  We are so excited as a family for this next adventure in his life.  He has a girlfriend and we will attend graduation (PIR).  We are spending a lot of quality time together and he is studying and working out to prepare.  Any advice on special activities to do before he leaves?

I have left info on some of your My Pages about your future Sailor's rating (job/occupational specialty) or field and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I have info on every rating and field. I also have that info for the PACT programs.

It's not too early to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and to start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will be put on the Access List....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Tmansmom58 - mine left a year ago November. It was hard being without him for Thanksgiving and Christmas - I won't lie. But we made it through. I sent photos to him of our family holidays - decorating the tree, baking cookies, opening presents etc... I printed them on printer paper and wrote our letters around them. I also sent him lots of Christmas cards (none with glitter though) with notes inside. I wrote every day from the day he left until the day we left to drive to PIR.

Personally we didn't leave the tree up or anything like that. He didn't come home until mid-March - we saw him for several hours after PIR and then had to take him back to base. He flew out the following morning for A-school  -we were able to meet him at the airport and wait with him at the gate until he boarded but he didn't get leave until after A-school (and he was on hold after A-school graduation for nearly 2 weeks before leave). We had him home for 3 weeks and then he flew to Japan for his first duty station  - we don't anticipate him coming home on leave until May 2018 (he's in Japan until Spring 2019) so he's gone this holidays season as well - and most likely next also.

Yes my sailor left 11/21, it's not the best time to leave. The holidays are very different without him. And then the restrictions on mail... I'm besides myself sometimes. I am leaving that tree up until he comes home. Anyone else in this similar?

My son left Nov 15. It was sort of poor planning, on his part-missing 3 holidays, his birthday and his girlfriend's winter break from college. Boys! Smh
