Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of November (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have November ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in November, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Eileen, Did he take a cell phone? When my younger son left, I was advised to send it. He called the night he got there from his cell phone. I also found out the hard way that not all the pay phones work.
As for the address, the recruiter should be able to get it. Stay on top of it. I was able to call on Friday when he got there on Tues. night. My recruiter already knows that next week I will be calling to get my other son's address. He leaves Monday, so I should be bale to call Thurs. He too will take his cell phone. My first one in called once he got into O'Hare. It was good for me to be able to talk as he waited at the airport.
As for the PIR, I would not miss it! It is so wonderful to see the child you left at MEPS turn into such a wonderful Sailor in eight short weeks!

Ivonna, You are in for the ride of your life! (A good one) Since my son leaves the same day, I guess I will see you in Jan. Just remember to do as the RDCs say, and stay awake during Battle Stations! Also, stay focused for the run. My younger son almost failed it because he would get side tracked! >:-0

All your DEPPER needs to take with him/her is like was mentioned, address book, stamps, stationary, wallet with state ID and SS card. A religious medialion can be worn with the dog tags. At MEPS, they will be given a New Testament to take with them. If your DEPPER has a cell phone, I would send it. That way, they can call home when they get there. It will be sent home, but at least you will be able to talk on last time. Also, you might want to send a smal amount of money for something at the airport. The USO at the airport will take good care of your DEPPER. Also, they should also get a vaocher to eat at the airport. All civilian things will be sent home. You should get it about a week after they get there.
My first son had his PIR last month, and my next son leaves next week. I can say that if it weren't for this site, I would have never made it through! This site is a true Godsend!

pattinicosia, I understand. When my first son left, I was sitting in the denist's office, when I got an mail, and the flood began. I had my mouth full of cotton, and they thought I was crying because of the pain. I told them that it was because my son was leaving in 5 days. They asked about him the next time I went in.
I did upload some pictures of his PIR this past weekend. It was so good! My older son who leaves in 3 weeks was able to get to preview what he will be doing. It renewed his excitment.

Well, I'm on my way to Great Lakes. I'm at the Milwakee airport waiting on my son, Richard, to get here. He had to take a different flight. My younger son has his PIR tomorrow. I'll let everyone know how it went. I'm so glad that Richard gets to see it before he leaves next month.

Michele, welcome. I know you are nervous. It's ok. This will be my second son give to the US Navy, and I thought it would be easier, but I'm getting the same feelings. At least this time, I know what to expect. My first one has his PIR next week, so maybe I can help a little more. lol
When my first son left, all I wanted to do was cry! Now I still want to cry, but now because I get to hold him next week! (Liberty call at 10:35 AM 10-16-09!!!)
All of your feelings are normal. We all have them. I know that I had a year before my first one left, so I made sure to take as many pictures and make every holiday special. This holiday season will be so strange with both my boys gone.
Please if you have any questions, ask. That's what we are here for. I love this site. If it weren't for all the wonderful people here, I never would have known as much as I do, or have such wonderful syber friends! We will get through this together.

PIR, Pass In Review. This is the graduaton from Boot Camp. This is the day that we all spend eight LONG weeks to see! Each recruit will be given four tickets for family to attend. I have made plans to go in two weeks to my younger son's PIR. I am so glad that my older son will be babe to see it before he goes in Nov.
From what I have heard from other mothers, it is so amazing to see the young boy or girl you sent off, and is now a sailor in the US Navy! It is so important to each recruit to have someone attend. If you want to see what it is like, do a youtube search of PIR. I did, and was so impressed with the ceremany. After Laurence's, I will post pictures.
Oh, one thing I learned the hard way: Not all the pay phones work! The one chance my son had to call home, I answered the phone to dead silence. I tired to call back, but again to dead silence. I was heart broken. I hope the next time he gets a chance to call, he will use another phone!
