Our son ships on 10/1 from Atlanta, GA.

Also getting nervous in our house.

Praying our PIR is Thanksgiving week in hopes we'll get more time with them afterward.

My son is 20, we are in Chicago. His date is 10/3/13. I am assuming that is the same since he doesn't have to travel. In fact, I work 10 minutes from Great Lakes. He will be so close, yet so far....I think that is going to drive me crazy!!!!

My boy leaves from Albany NY on Oct 3 - it sure came quick !  We realized the other day that he only has7 weeks left @ home.  Starting to get pretty antsy !

My son leaves from Albany on Oct. 2, It is coming very quick.... we are all starting to get a little antsy also.

Hi ! My son also leaves from Albany, but the next day - Oct 3.  Odd that they don't all go @ once from the same area...I guess you & I will meet @ PIR :)

Actually, the way we might be misrepresenting the dates is because (at least with my son), they go to their HOTELS on 10/2, then have swear-in, MEPS, etc. on 10/3 and fly out that day.  So, as they actually "leave" on 10/2, that might be the date people are using.

Thank you - I bet you are exactly right ! My son has to report on Oct 2 with a ship date of Oct 3.

You're probably right @BoomMom. My son was given a date of 10/3, but I bet he *leaves* 10/2.

Ugh . . . it's coming too fast!

Where are you from? We are in Michigan, the Thumb Area. So driving won't be too bad. Looking forward to getting to know you all these next few months!

Too fast is right... HIs "Anchor's Aweigh" party is in less than 3... and then, well, don't like thinking about it.  I was born in Ypsilanti, and my husband, Ann Arbor.  IF the PIR is Thanksgiving weekend, we will drive.  If not, we will probably fly.  Lots to be worked out.

Ahhh! Good old A2!

We are near Port Huron. All our lives, lol!

We are having our son's party on the 21st. I still can't believe it!

It is strange that they don't leave on the same day.  My son reports to Albany on Oct 1 and then swears in and ships off to Great Lakes on the 2nd.    It will be nice to meet you @ PIR.  It is going to suck not to be able to talk to them for almost 9 weeks.  They keep them busy in boot camp, but we get to sit around thinking about how they are doing.  Maybe we could all get together and meet before they leave.  I am just wondering if when our recruiter gave us the date of Oct 2, he meant to report to Albany and then leave on the 3rd.  Going to have to find out!

Is your recruiter based in Colonie Center ?  I'm not sure I'm allowed to post his name, but it begins with a B.  Seems like the whole DEP thing hasn't been as intense as we expected, so I am kinda just playing things by ear right now.  Not a lot of guidance given so far.  I believe my son was told that he will report to the hotel on Oct 2 & ship on Oct 3.  He was told that his Sept mtg would be his 30 day meeting, so he needed to be prepared to have his finacial plan, and any outstanding issues completely dealt with by that date.  I don't think there are any issues, but who knows ?  The next 6 weeks will FLY , so am trying to gear up now.  It would be great to meet - it's so funny that our kids know each other & we have no idea who we are - I'm not sure that sounds too right, but I bet you get it :)
