I can't believe it is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER... up until a few days ago it seemed as if I still had all the time in the world before my son left, but a flip of that calender page and BOOTCAMP in bright red pen screams from the October 9th box.....Leaving from NYC...
Don't get me wrong, I am oh soooo proud of him & his decision to join the Navy - but, I'm a mom.... (one that cries like a babbling baby at the Christmas Budweiser commercials...lol) and I kind of have the feeling like once he goes, he is kind of gone forever... at least the child I know will be. Jeez, I have 15 more days with him & I'm crying already... duh....

I am right behind you. My daughters ship date was bumped last week from Oct 1 to Oct 15 to go to BC... we get 2 more weeks with her and now PIR on Thanksgiving week is off the table

when they bumped mine back from the 27th to the 9th it has the potential of messing with my daughters cheer team going to national's for the first time in Disney down in Florida.... his possible PIR date & her competition dates are the same exact week now.... ugggg

My son signed last week and leaves October 8th.  I was (still am) devastated. I cry at the drop of a hat.  I am proud that my youngest is growing up and made the decision to join the Navy, but he didn't leave us any time to get used to the idea, much less plan for him to leave.  I can totally relate to the feeling that when he leaves he is gone forever.  This is so hard.

WOW... that is a wham bam out of there time frame.... I can't imagine the rollercoaster your emotions must be on..... my heart goes out to you! I've been lucky to have had time to adjust. He had signed up in march and I was ok with it - hell I was one proud mama yelling from rooftops CAUSE IT WASN'T REALLY REAL in March or April or.... but in two weeks is REAL and I realize I didn't adjust, I just didn't deal with it or at least didn't REALLY think about what his joining really meant for me... He's my oldest & out of all our 5 kids he was the last one I would have ever thought would go into the military... I am proud of him & happy for him but sooooo feeling sorry for what I'm loosing... I had read somewhere on here not to morn while they're still here & take advantage of every minute we still have before they go... just wish he was little again so I could have every last second & not have the "life" he has now to go spend time with too.... we can cry together...

I definitely feel like I am on an emotional rollercoaster.  I am trying to believe that the short time is actually a blessing because I have to work through all of this faster, which gives me less time to stress.  It takes so little to put me in tears.  It is amazing how insensitive people can be trying to make you feel better!

I just try to tell myself when someone opens their mouth & that kind of "help" comes out... ya just can't fix stupid!! attempting to nail jello to the wall would give a much better outcome.... lol

What's helping me right now is putting together study aids/guides/flashcards for him to study with (all the info coming from this site I might add).. It keeps me busy plus I don't seem to feel as clueless & detached from this whole thing as I'm learning gaggles of info- that before I started was very intimidating...whatever works to help me to not feel like an outsider looking in is comforting..
