So it is finally here. The day we have been waiting for since May. My son is at the Recruiter now and will be leaving for GL tomorrow. I am so excited for him but my heart is also a little heavy as he is not near. He did all of his recruiting while at college so I had to say my good byes last week. I wish I could be there to see him swear in tomorrow and give him one last big hug.

On a positive note, some of us have been getting nervous because we heard there would be no PIR on December 19th. Luckily norcal-_pops reached out to RTC and they confirmed that there would be PIR on the 19th so hopefully we will see our kids at Christmas for the Holiday stand down.

Anyone else leaving tomorrow?

SoCalNukeMom, my daughter arrived at GL (Great Lakes, also RTC) on 22 October, and her recruiting office swears her PIR (Pass in Review, aka graduation from BC, Boot Camp) is 12/12, so I would *think* your son's will be 12/12.  The RTC has stated there will NOT be PIR on 12/19, so if your son doesn't have PIR on 12/12, the next most likely date is 12/31.  I'm not sure what GC is, but I'm guessing Charleston is where his A school is, and we all seem to be up in the air about what is going to happen when they get to A school, there is no set in stone answer about whether they will be granted leave for the holidays or not.

Thanks, Lyrics! He is the 12th as well. Ship 13, div 044. Tonypete had the GC acronym down. You are all so wonderfully helpful! I appreciate knowing that others are in the same 'boat' as I am with some of their questions!

Will be patient!

SoCalNukeMom, as Lyrics said - our SRs will be part of the 12/12 PIR. My son left on Oct 21 and I received the letter today. I imagine your son will also be part of that PIR. Btw, GC stands for Goose Creek. That's where the Nukes go for 'A' school. It's just a bit north of Charleston SC. My son will also go there also after PIR. Each of our sons may have different Christmas schedules as some may get leave, some may have to stand watches during the holidays, etc. Until our sons get their final orders, we're just guessing.

It all part of the Navy life - Big Navy will tell them (and us) when they are ready to. Gotta stay flexible. :)

Tonypete

Thanks Tonypete,

He is part of PIR on 12/12-ship 13 div 044 got the letter today.

Will be patient and flexible.  So if he gets leave, he has to stay within a certain distance from GC I am assuming. If I can't get there from So Cal, what other options do they have for the holidays?

Best, SoCalNukeMom

We got the letter, 12/12 ship 12 div 041
