My son leaves 10/2 also.  He is 23 and oh so ready to go.  He has experienced time from home so anticipate no problems with homesickness.

Oh, we are from Upstate New York.  Near Watertown

My son doesn't leave till 10/8.  He has a degree but couldn't find fulltime work--just a bunch of fulltime jobs.  He's ready to go--I'm having some trouble!  Suppose it's because it's my youngest?

Derek's our oldest and has been very independant since he was fifteen he has a full time job but not happy with it. I thought he was crazy at first because so many men his age don't have jobs. He wants to better himself so decided to enlist, without talking to us. We are fine with his decision.

Bill's our youngest.  He can only find a bunch of parttime jobs--suppose it's because of the economy and the new healthcare.  Anyway, he has a degree in Education, but decided he was tired of waiting and wanted to get on with his life.

We have two older boys who are married with kids, but they live close to home.  I think our biggest adjustment will be if Bill moves too far away from us (he probably will).  We live in Tulsa.

You must be so proud of your son.  Independence is such a good quality!

Derek wants to be an underwater welder. Not much hope of him ending up here. Hopefully he will be in a great place for us to travel to.

Our daughter lives eight miles from us and I babysit my granddaughter. So much fun.

Bill wants to be a sonar technician on a sub (go figure), so the chances of him being stationed in Oklahoma are pretty slim, too.  Maybe he'll be stationed somewhere fun to visit.  That's what I'm hoping for.

Hi Claudia, my son leaves 10/8 also. Same story here, he has a welding degree and a motorcycle mechanics degree, but hasn't been able to find work in NJ. He's going in as an aircraft equpiment mechanic. He's so excited to get started. He is 23 and did live in Daytona for close to a year getting the motorcycle degree. He is our youngest and it will be a new experience for my husband and I to be alone in this house.
