My son left today I am an emotional wreck waiting for my 30 second "I am here mom".

My son left today, too.  We were at MEPS this morning and saw him swear in.  I was doing great -- didn't cry; hugged him bye; we came home.  The minute I got in the driveway I broke down and cried.  All the flags were still in the driveway (from our party); his sign is still in the driveway....

We'll get through it!  Yes, I'm waiting to hear from him, too!  What is his first name?  They might be in the same division - you never know!!  Anyway, hang in there...

His name is Jack.  We had planned a party but unfortunatley somehow they got his base weight wrong and he spent the weekend working out with recruiter.  I hope to hear from you again.  I dont know how i am gonna make 9 weeks of maybe not talking to him and he is not much of a writer but i hope he does write.  i am so glad i have this website!

Hang in there.  Got a call from mine about an hour and a half ago that mine had gotten into the Chicago airport and was waiting for the bus to arrive and then a 45 minute ride to the base.  Wondering how soon after they get there before they call.  I am afraid I will miss it cause it is about my bed time.  Good luck, hoping the time goes quick.

I had my phone on me from the time i knew he got on the plane until he called I was afraid i would miss it too.  I hope it goes quickly as well.  Write me anytime!
My son left yesterday too and I was also fine during his swearing in... It was only after that I lost it! We were fortunate to go to the airport and American Airlines was awesome as we got to go through security and wait for the 3 hours with him! It was when his plane left that I totally lost it! I gotta say that is the soonest I have ever saw a plane take off! From the last person walking down to the ramp to the actual liftoff was less than 10 minutes... I texted him once he got to Chicago too and then didn't hear from him for about 4 and a half hours... Slept with my phone in my hand! He called just about 15 minutes after I went to bed... He sounded scared but I am sure some of it is just being tired... Look forwarrd to sharing this journey with all of you!
I am so glad to have people going through the same thing!  My son's plane was 5 hours away so i was unable to go that hurt i wish i could of been there with him.  Mine called me when the plane landed in Chicago I am guessing he was a little apprehensive but i hope he does well.  Hope to hear more from you all in the coming weeks!
I actually slept with the phone in my hand, had it on vibrate because I knew that would wake me up.  He called at 12:15 am that he was there and okay.  I didn't answer it, I gave the phone to his dad when I saw it was Charlie, I think he is having a harder time than I am - Charlie is our only child, and my husbands dad has cancer and we got news on Monday after Charlie left that the treatment didn't work and there isn't a lot more they can do, other than treat the symptoms.  I just felt he needed to hear Charlie's voice more than me, and I had talked to him when he was in the airport in Chicago.  Now it is just a matter of waiting for a letter.  I am going to get one written and ready to mail as soon as I can get an address from the recruiter, which should be a couple of days.  Hang in there.
OMG how heart breaking i am so sorry to hear that.  My son not much of a writer so i'm not to confident that he will write but we will all be writing him.  Our recruiter said might have an address next week.  Prayers to your father in law.
My son doesn't write much either! I am hoping this changes that even if only temporarily!
That's what i'm hoping for as well!  My guess if he does write it will be to his girlfriend. :(
Goodness what a waterfall of emotions! I am so sorry for all that you are going through. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!
Hello Ladies, My son Michael left for bc yesterday too...That 30 sec phone call was way too short. He sounded good though told me to watch for a box w/his belongings in it and a letter with grad info within a few weeks. Said that he love me & that he had to go... he didn't give me a chance to see how his trip went or anything.... I started my first letter to him today. Thanks for posting ladies, nice to know youre out there!
