I don't see anyone yet for 2013. I just joined the site, my son signed for DEP last week. He has been to MEPS, and has a BC date of October 29th, 2013. I'm having a hard time with the fact that he will miss Thanksgiving, his 18th birthday, and Christmas while at BC. He just made this decision in the last 3 weeks, so it has been quite a whirlwind month.
Looking forward to meeting other Moms who have kids leaving!
momm2five, BC is 7 to 10 weeks year round with 8 1/2 weeks being average. Those shipping around the holidays often get a longer time at the RTC rather than a shorter time. Since your future Sailor ships on a Monday PIR is most likely 12/27/2013, but could also be 12/20/2013 if he winds up in a Push Division from the previous week's TG. See Arrival and What Happensat the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on that. Start checking out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., to prepare for your future Sailor to ship.
Thank you! This is all a lot to take in. With four other kids, one planning a wedding, it's going to be a crazy fall!
This site is incredible, though. I love being informed about where to stay and how to do the littlest things for PIR and BC!
You are very welcome.
Well, we are no longer the 28th! He has been moved up to the 3rd . . .
My son leaves 10/3. We are in Chicago....
He is 20 and headed to Goose Creek after BC.
I see you have joined NUKE moms; you may also want to check out Nuke School Charleston and Nuke A School FAQ. The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf. Your (then) Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
Thanks for the tip!!
You are welcome.
They will be together! Great that you are so close for PIR. We'll be driving (we live in the Thumb in Michigan). I can't believe I am down to four weeks . . . a month from tomorrow.
My son will stay in GL for A school. Pretty happy about that.
What will your future Sailor's rating (job/specialty) be?
He will be Gunner's Mate.
Join GM Mom's. You will also want to join Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page.
