My daughter's boyfriend and I will be staying at a nearby hotel.
They offer a free shuttle service to the graduation. Does the shuttle actually go all the way to graduation site?
Also anyone know how far it is from Burkey Mall to the graduation site. We will not have a rental car.

We are debating the rental car as well .  Since our daughter will be flying to A school after PIR, there is no point in staying around..

The shuttle will take you to the gate for graduation, you walk in from there. The mall is about a mile from base, but walking from one to the other not really an option. Some lack of sidewalks, busy four, five and six lanes of traffic, etc.

Renting a car really is the easiest, and can/may end up being the least expensive too.

I'm hoping her father and grandmother will stay at the same hotel that we will.
They're driving in from Oklahoma. So then we will have some transportation.
I'm taking the greyhound from Kentucky and the boyfriend from Indiana. We're on a limited budget
We're meeting up in Chicago and ubering to the hotel

Do look into the Chicago Metra from Chicago OTC to just about whatever town you are staying in. The train is approx $7 per person. You can buy a weekend pass for a couple dollars more. If your city isn't on the stop you can probably catch a cab from the station to wherever. You might even ask your hotel if the have shuttles from the train.

You want to look at the Union Pacific North schedule.

Metra

Actually greyhound goes to Waukegan which is where the base actually is if you wanted to meet up there and assuming your hotel is there.
From what I see if you are going to be based in Chicago, you would walk one block south from the Greyhound station at Harrison between Des Plains and Jefferson and catch the 60 bus to the Ogilive Transportation Center. From there you would take the Metra route Union Pacific North to Great Lakes. The stop is right outside the gate you will be using to enter for PIR. Tickets are $8.85 one way.
You will still need local taxi/ Uber to get to your hotel, etc.

If the greyhound runs to Waukegan that is perfect then. I couldn't find that stop on the greyhound site though. I'll call them to find it

Thank you for the info!

Thank you for the information. This could be a great option for us!

You may want to look into taking the train from Chicago to the base and doing taxi/ Uber from there to hotel. Might be less expensive that way.
What train is that? I was looking online and got totally confused.

Be careful of Uber in Great Lakes during the weekend. We have heard from some that they are charging a premium price during the weekend.

I was told the hotel shuttles drop off at the gate. It’s approx 1/4 mile from gate to welcome center then another 1/4 mile to the ceremony hall.
