Well, I've done all I can do.  Made sure we hit all of his favorite restaurants, cooked all of his favorites, spent as much time as possible with him taking time for some coaching and making sure he knows I have full faith in him and that I am so proud of him.  Got all the calling cards, the blister pads for his wallet.  Wrote the addresses inside his bible.  We had family pictures taken last week.  His recruiter picks him up in less than 3 hours from now.  I know he will do great!  Me...not so sure.  But it will be okay in the end.  He knows himself at 18 years old much better than I know myself at XX years old.  lol! But this stuff is hard on parents.  I feel as though I've aged 20 years in the last 3 days.  But I did all I can with him and raised him right.  Now it's up to him.  He'll be wonderful at this.

Will be praying for you as we count down the days until October 24.    We, like you, are trying the hit all the favorite things, final vacations, making sure we see everyone.  Have just started the quest to assemble everything he needs to take with him.  My son wants to be independent and isn't sharing a lot, but I'm getting lots of info from N4M so that is quite helpful.

Hi April,

Did just the same for my son. He gets picked up this evening. I wish them well, God keep them safe, and help us to get through all of this. Such a strange day.

I leave tomorrow morning. My mom made sure she took me to some of my favorite place as well, she made my favorite meal last night (enchiladas) cause we thought that I was going to stay in a hotel tonight but come to find out nobody is staying in the hotel anymore, at least where I'm at. So I have one more night in my bed then off to MEPS at 5 in the morning tomorrow. I have a little wallet with my ID and all, and a little paper with my addresses on it. I feel bad cause my mom has been crying the last couple of nights and she sat me down yesterday to talk to me and broke out in tears. You will be fine, a lot of people react the same when sending their child off.

It is such a helpful site, I love it

My daughter flew out of Memphis today. While I am so proud of her, my heart just aches knowing how much I will miss her.
My son has been in Denver at MEPS since Monday. I've been crying ever since. Tomorrow we'll see him swear in before leaving for boot camp. I am falling apart.

We just got the call last night that my son's ship date has been bumped up to October 23.  We still have a little time but I thought we would have more.  Just like blcmomct's comment, my son's been pretty quiet about it all.  Working on getting everything in order before he leaves.  Like you said - We have done all we can and we raised him right so now he gets to make his own way.  Will be praying for all you.  I think is is worse on our end.
