Hi! I officially became a Navy mom on Thursday and couldn't be more proud! I am feeling so many emotions right now. Would love to connect with other parents who have a DEP leaving 9/6/2012. The best advice the recruiter gave me was to join NavyforMoms.com. This website is awesome and a wealth of information!!!

Congrats! I too became a Navy Mom on Wednesday, March 14th. My son is currently scheduled to leave for boot camp on Sept. 24, 2012.
Congratulations to you too! Is this the first time you have someone going into the military? What does your son want to do? I am very excited but at the same time, shedding tears.
Yes - it is my oldest son who enlisted so I am very new at this. I am also excited for him and somewhat nervous. This web site has loads of great information which eases the nerves a little. My son enlisted as an EM (Electricians Mate) which was the job he really wanted. Now we just need to get through with high school and enjoy his final summer at home.
I am brand new to this as well and am trying to learn all the Navy lingo! My son also got the job he was hoping for which is Hospital Corpsman and wants to train with the Fleet Marine Force to become a combat medic. That is the part that is scaring me to death. I am hoping to hear from other moms that have sons or daughters that want to become or are combat medics. I am hoping the summer drags by but it feels like the time is flying by already. This website has some great videos regarding DEPS starting boot camp, etc. They made me feel much better about things. If you haven't already, take a moment a watch them.
I became a Navy Mom on April 2, 2012. My only son went to Miami, Fl for all of the physicals & met with the qualifier to chose what he wanted to do in the Navy. He graduates next month & then it is a summer of meetings every other week down at the recruiting office! He chose Aviation Electronics & could not be more happier. He ships out on September 12, 2012. His Dad & I could not be prouder of him.
The recruiter suggested this website....and it is great!
Congratulations to you and your son! He is shipping out 6 days after my son. Would they graduation together or only with other sailors to be that shipped out on September 6th? This website has been a wealth of information and hope to hook up with others. I am a pretty emotional mom . .. .very proud, love the military, but sad to see my son leave.
My son leaves Sept 6th also, he is my youngest. My middle son left Sept 6th last year so this is my second go round....if I can help answering any questions, please let me know. I learned alot and it will definitely make it much easier this time!
wow! You have 2! I am not sure how I would handle that........although my daughter, who is younger, could probably use the dicipline!
It was much harder with my first son...maybe it hasn't sunk in yet!! Graduation from Bootcamp was one of my proudest moments and that is something if at all possible not to miss!! I also think this son will be more prepared for BC because his brother has been through it already and we know so much more!
Congratulations to you and your son! How exciting that I have finally found someone who is leaving the same day as my son! What did he sign up for? My son is going for Hospital Corpsman with hopes to become a Combat Medic. When did your son graduate last year? If I counted the weeks right, they should graduate November 9th. Any tips with the graduation and anything else you can think of, will be greatly appreciated. My son is the first person in our family to choose a military career. I am so proud of him but scared and sad at the same time. I don't know if there will be enough Kleenex in the state of IL to dry my tears at the graduation! It will be exciting to see if our sons will be in the same division. Hopefully, they will be able to meet. Where are you from? Also, I know you only get 4 tickets for the graduation. If you need more tickets, I know they have a "holding" room. What are the chances of extras getting in? I would hate to have my sister's family come out and not be able to see him graduate as we are a 14 hour drive from IL. Thanks for any help you can give me. Have a nice day.
My son's rate is ABH. He graduates in June and won't be 18 until October. We live on Long Island and he goes to MEPS in Brooklyn, NY. As far as graduation, my other son went to BC on Sept 6th last year and he was in something called a push division which is only 7 weeks. He graduated on I think Oct 29 or 30, can't remember the exact date. BC can be anywhere from 7 to 9 weeks, just depends on when the divisions fill up...Graduation you are allowed 4 people, however you can have other people attend, they just have to wait in line on a first come first serve basis after everyone on the lists are admitted. My son's PIR (graduation) only had 7 divisions so there was plenty of room for the extra people. Sometimes they graduate 12 or 13 divisions and that is when they start running out of room. My other son is now on deployment since the end of January on the Arleigh Burke and that has been tough. Very limited contact and I haven't spoken to him on the phone since he left....I remember how stressful it was when he went to bootcamp, but you do learn one thing, no news is good news!!
Thanks for the quick response! My son also graduates in June and will be 18 on October 4th. We live in upstate NY. My husband is from Long Island too. MEPS is in Albany, however, his recruiting office is in Schenectady. On Thursday, he will be attending his first DEP meeting. Ever since signing, he is like ready to go now! Hard to keep him focused on school. He has a really nice recruiter and is working with me on this. A few more questions came to mind . . . .when your son left for boot camp, did you bring him to the airport or to MEPS? When we receive the info on graduation, will it tell us how many divisions will be graduating? Did you fly or drive to IL? After graduation, did your son leave the next day? We are not sure if we should leave later on Saturday, Sunday, or even Monday. Sorry to hit you with all of this! You must have nerves of steel having a son deployed and one entering. I am trying to keep up a brave front, but it feels like a "death" to me. We are a very close family with everyone staying local. He is the first to leave so it is very difficult for all of us. I will keep your boys in my prayers and thanks a million for all your help!
