Daughter leaving 11/8 for Great Lakes for Boot camp, anyone else have a child leaving that day too?

My daughter is 23, she made the decision to join the Navy and my life has been a whirlwind since. I don't know how I'm going to adjust to her not being around and not being able to call her and check up on her. She's very petite 103 lbs. I worry about her not being able to handle the rigorous boot camp physical side of things. I worry about someone picking on her and much much more. Is this abnormal to worry about everything? Good thing is, she's very polite and gets along well with others but I sure hope she doesn't meet a smart a$$ girl and they fight. I am mainly concerned with her safety. Then after boot camp she goes to Pensacola, FL for A Schooling, then only GOD knows where she'll be stationed. We are from Northeastern, PA, hoping she winds up on the East Coast somewhere. Her father lives in Florida so she's hoping for Jacksonville, FL. She is leaving 10 days.........my nerves are shot! I want to get her something special but from what I hear, they cannot take anything with them., so tomorrow we're having girls day and I'm going to pamper her with a pedicure, manicure and hair coloring. She signed up in March and selected that delayed time to adjust herself to the idea. She's been running and working out to prepare her tiny frame for boot camp. So I figured, if I take her to get a french manicure on her toes and nails and get her hair colored, that's something the Navy cannot take off her when she gets there.

Question: Do I have to pay for graduation book, prior to her leaving?

Any help and insight, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sheree

Sheree - Welcome to Navy For Moms!!  You will for sure what to join the Group Leaving for Bootcamp in November, there is a group for each month.  This is the easiest way to find people with family members shipping out the same time as your SR.  I have a son but one thing I read is she may want to get a haircut because the cut you get once you get to Chicago is not so great!! But there are lots of moms of girls on here that will be better versed than me!!  Also start reading the links for the PIR - there is so much great information as far as what to take to the graduation, the do's and don'ts and a section about the PIR pictures, there are different ways to do it but you can't send money with her, there are lots of spots that will tell you only send $15.00 or so with your SR.  IN the boot camp section read all the links and discussions at the top.. They will help with getting both of you ready for her to leave for Bootcamp. I am addicted to this site as my only child left 8 days ago but I can tell you there are amazing people on here who know what your going through and the new moms and the veteran moms are all here to help!  Best of luck as you start your journey!
