hi folks! good thing i found this group, i have such questions in my head right now.

anyway, my husband got our orders and we will be stationed in Lemoore, CA for about 2 yrs.

I am really excited, at the same time anxious for our very first move!

can somebody please share what Lemoore is all about?

he's attached into VFA 122 squadron, and is an AE.

what is it to expect & such?....

with regards to housing? any suggestion for apartments close to the base?..

i have no specific questions for now, but i will really appreciate anything from you guys.

im anticipating this move, and your ideas/thoughts will be so helpful!

thanks in advance :)

Hello, maybe I can help you out a little bit. I live in Hanford which is a town Next to Lemoore NAS, but much larger then Lemoore.  You will get to know Hanford very well, since all of the shopping and off base recreational activities are in Hanford. We have a Super Wal-Mart out here and Target, and a Mall(the mall has a theater) all located in the same area, off of 12th Ave, right off the 198 freeway that goes from Lemoore directly into Hanford. First of all I am sure you are already aware that Lemoore NAS is a very small Air Base so there isn't much too it.  I can tell you that the housing on base is very nice.  It's fairly new, probably somewhere between 5-10 years old, but I can say I have seen the housing and it is nice. If you have any more questions that I can help answer just let me know.

hi navywife 31! thanks so much for taking the time to comment out. i really appreciate it!

may i know where do u live? its just im having a hard time to look for a safe community place

to live into. there's not much choices online... the only one that i see that i kinda like is college park..

and how do u like your place?

with my situation, its just me & my hubby, so we dont need anything roomy/spacious.

we were thinking about on base housing, but they said there a long wait list? and they said its a minimum of

3 bedrooom? i dont think we need that much, but living on base would be convinient fo rmy hubby to go to work.

i really dont know a thing about on base housing, processing etc.

I don't know much about on base housing either, other then I think having a family and your husbands rate have a lot to do with getting housing on base.  My husband is new to the Navy as well. He just graduated from Boot Camp 2-18-11 and he is currently in Dam Neck VA for "A school". There are some options for housing in Hanford but I'm not sure I can help you there. We live in a house we have owned forever and my husband was born and raised out here in Hanford.  We will probably be stationed somewhere other then NAS Lemoore and we will be putting up our house for rent.  We have a small 900 Square foot house that has 2 rooms and the garage is built into a room as well. Within the Next 2 weeks we will find out ourselves where we will be stationed, and will be putting our house up for rent sometime this summer.  For a small 2 bedroom apartment the cost in this area is about $700-$900 a month depending on how fancy the apartments are. The BHA is about $1000 a month, but not sure if they give more to families with kids, since we have 2 kids, that's what we get.

My Neighborhood is older housing, our house was built in the 1940's, but it's still in fairly good condition. We are happy with our house other then the fact that our family is getting too big to live here, lol... but I can't argue, it is free to live here, and the Navy gives us BHA...

Personally, we want to get out of here.  Maybe it's because we have lived here all our lives, but it is a small town and not much for small children to do(since we have 2 kids thats important to us). If your wanting to do something or go Major clothes Shopping or find some fun recreational activities(other then the Movies) you would have to go to the Next biggest town. Which would be Fresno, or Visalia. I often go to Visalia for my kid's activities since there isn't much out here for kids. We are hoping to get San Diego.  We aren't likely to get Lemoore, which we are happy about.  My husband 's Job is IS(Intel Specialist) so not many Intel out in this area since it's an Air Base.  If there is anything else I can help you with let me know.
