Hello all

My husband just got orders to Lemoore. Im from Augusta Ga and pretty scared about the whole thing. How do you go about getting housing? And is the job market there as bad as everyone says it is? I graduate June 2011 with a AS in Marketing Mgmt. He graduates A school November 17, 2010. Im not going to join him there until I graduate because we have a son and I have family here to help me with him while Im in school. ANY information is greatly appreciated on how to get the process started....Thank you so much

Hi Nicole,
I'm not sure I have all the answers for you but I'll offer what I can. Your husband should get most of the info he needs before he leaves A school, the challenge is getting our husbands share all that info with us! I know my husband stayed at his A school about 2 or 3 weeks after he graduated because the checking out process can be long so its possible that he wont make the move until much later than Nov. 17. He will probably take classes on how to move and all the necessary steps. moving in the military can definitely be tricky. try this site to get started

the most important thing i have learned with military moves is to plan ahead, read all the paper work, save all receipts, etc.
you may want to ask your relocation office about moving a couple months after your husband because there may be some extra steps for that.
military one source is a big help and you can call them with any question too. militaryonesource.com

you will want to check with the housing office in Lemoore for info about housing. they can help you apply for on base housing and sometimes help you locate off base housing. try this site

If your husband is in A school then you both must be a little new to the military so I'll suggest a few other things that need to be done if they haven't yet.
if you and your son are not yet enrolled in DEERS get that started. You also need a military ID card.
military one source will be helpful with those things.

if you can drive to one of the military bases nearby you might benefit from some of the moving classes they offer. these are great because moving can be complicated. some classes are focused just on moving or you can take one that covers all kinds of good military info. LINKS is a good class on marine corp bases and COMPASS on navy bases. i live by MCAS beaufort in SC which is probably a long drive for you but there are good classes here (with free daycare)

you might also be interested in Fleet and family support: https://www.cnic.navy.mil/Lemoore/BaseSupport/index.htm

also contact your ombudsman for you new command so they can keep you in the loop.

i hope at least some of that is helpful. let me know if you have any more specific questions

good luck!
Oh wow! Thank you so much for the info... And boy are you right I can barely get my husband to tell me anything!! Its driving me nuts. I will def check into all the websites you provided. Also I was talking to another military wife and she was telling me about a website that you can apply for jobs before you get to your duty station.... Do you know anything about that?
Ill also check to see if there is some classes at Fort Gordon in Augusta Ga.

Thanks again so much you dont know how helpful you are!!
Nicole
this looks like a great website to get you started:
https://www.cnic.navy.mil/lemoore/Jobs/Searchingforajob/index.htm

you can also call the Work/Life (employment) Specialist with fleet and family support in lemoore at (559) 998-4688. i think a lot of times they send emails with local job listings.
WOW you so very helpful!! How did you get the housing office number? So how do you like it so far? Ill be comming as soon as I graduate next summer. How is the job market there? Do you have kids? Sorry so many questions. I really hoping to make new friends.
Hope you have a great day!!
Nicole
