OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

This group was needed. So Cal is a BIG area. I grew up in Glendale. Graduated from USC. I am the creator and admin of the San Francisco Bay Area Navy Families group. Feel free to check out our group to get hints on how you want to organize your group.

We are not very chatty but we do love to get together. Since October of 2009 - we have had about 20-22 meet and greets - about one every 4 to 6 weeks. We have had 25 people at my house (the largest turn out) to just 4 for mid week luncheon. We normally don't invite the Navy recruiters because we (as moms) are more interested in connecting with each other. Besides, the Navy doesn't need additional advertising. It's oversubscribed.

Here are links to some of our meet and greets. Feel free to copy cat us - don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Some tips for meet and greets:

  • Typically, if the meet and greet is at a member's home, the address is sent to the members attending only and not published on the event.
  • After the Event organizer inputs the event, I normally post a link in the group's page. I use the section ABOVE the Discussion Forum like a bulletin board. You'll see this if you go to the San Fran group page. You can also post a link and invite people in your other groups.
  • You can also invite your friends to the Event.

My son will be completing his 5th year in the Navy next April. He will be leaving to explore his options in the civilian world. I have met some wonderful friends all due to Navy For Moms. In fact, one came to see me from OK for our Oct meet and greet. By the way, Cat1 should be joining this group. She is in the greater LA area. She came up to San Jose for one of our meet and greets. Also contact ProudNavyNanette. Both great ladies.

I'll stay around for a week or so in case you have any questions. Have fun.

BunkerQB.
