Hi Everyone!

My name is Liz, and my son just reported, yesterday, for duty on the prototype reactor in upstate NY for the next 6 months.

I think I'm doing ok, as far as being nervous about him working with the reactor.  I think the real nerves will set in once he's done there and is sent to a sub or carrier for the next 4 years.

I just wanted to touch base here with other folks with kids and loved ones in the nuke program.

We are in So Cal, in the Inland Empire area (South/East of Los Angeles).  Anyone else in this area?

Thanks!

~Liz

Hi Liz, My son is still in Power School, but I will be interested to keep tabs on this discussion in case he is sent up there as well! I'm in the NC mountains, by the way! :-)

I'll be passing by on Monday.  I have to be in Rock Hill Monday early afternoon and then heading over to the Asheville area.

Hi! My husband is up there now, though he was just put on a 2 month hold. I'm in Washington state at the moment but soon I'll be headed to NY!

There is a group for NY prototype if you aren't aware. Has some great people who can answer pretty much anything you might have a question about.  here  (hope I did that right. I might be young, but that doesn't make me computer literate!!)  If not, it's called "moms/dads/families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY"

hello, my son is just finishing up prototype in NY, he should grad 05/27 - i'm in Wisconsin by the way.

I have a nephew who lives in your neck of the woods I'm pretty sure.

My son also just started Prototype at Ballston Spa on May 6th.  We are from upstate Ny so I am so happy to have him closer (3 1/2 hrs).  he fell in love with Charleston and was sad to leave>  he is learning a little more about the area and seems to be enjoying it.  Saratoga Springs is a beautiful area. Luckily he got the 6 months from May-Nov when it has the best weather.  Looking forward to going to see him sometime this summer once he figures out his schedule.  He is currently  on M-F from 7-7 as are his 3 roommates.  That seems to work out nice for them.   Hoping he drives home father's day Weekend as were having a family gathering that Saturday at our cottage on Conesus Lake.   I see your SE of LA.  When we were first married we lived in Upland, CA near Ontario my husband worked fgor General Dynamics.  He then transferred to NY to the same nuclear site that our sons are at now and worked for a year.  Mys on was actually born in Saratoga Springs.

Liz- just realized you are from Chino- our first house was in Ontario, CA right next to Chino we lived on East E Street it was off Euclid if  remember correctly.

That's not far at all from where we are.  We're near the 60 Fwy at Mountain Ave.

I sincerely appreciate you all responding to my post.  It's comforting to know that other folks are maybe feeling a bit like I do; deeply proud, by a little worried.

Thanks!
