Dolphin-- talked to a friend who moved after her husband was already down here and she said the move was paid for..she mentioned that the address they put down was her husband's address in their home state (don't know if that makes a difference)...but I'm glad everything worked out 4 your family :)

Casey, I heard that y'all had met!! Yay!! Thanks so much for feeding them; they enjoyed the time with you and Ryan!! And congratulations on your 1st year of marriage!!! Yes, Rachel grinds wheat berries, and makes bread all the time (and so does her mom, and I do as well). You'll enjoy her bread; she's got a great recipe, and it's absolutely delish! Boone missed it during BC, so when we traveled up to the PIR, Rachel had made a lot of loaves, and it was pretty funny to see Boone wolfing down slice after slice after slice! :-) I'm just delighted y'all are living close by each other, too. How old is your son? Knox is 4 months now, so those boys must be fairly close in age. Again, thanks so much for reaching out to my children and welcoming them to GC! You're the best!! :-)

Dolphin--I can't remember all the details (sorry--pregnancy brain thinking!)...but is your son already in GC? If he is, they probably counted HIS move as the one move...I think if your daughter in law got moved up here AFTER he's already here..it might count as a 2nd move? Not sure..i would have him ask around and see if some of his classmates had wives that moved up later (and see if those moves were paid for)

also..you can email the ombudsmen if you have any questions about anything. they have direct access to all the "important" people on base, so I'm sure they can talk to someone if you can't get something done :)

nnptcombudsman@hotmail.com Sandy, Sariah, and Jessica are their names :)

oops! I meant Dolphin..not darla! :P

hey Darla--we did a DITY move and it doesn't matter who you rent from. I think it cost us about $900 from FL to SC (with UHAUL--we had a 26ft truck) I don't think there are restrictions as to where you rent. I've heard that budget/penske were cheaper, but at the time, we couldn't rent from them bc we weren't over 21.

Just make sure everything is in his name and in his credit card..save all receipts (even gas receipts) and make sure to make copies of everything before he submits it to PSD after his move. Also, keep in mind that the truck has to be weighed before and after it's loaded. Most people usually load the truck, then weigh it at a weigh station on the highway. After he unloads the truck, he can take it to the charleston air force base (closest weigh station). He needs to submit those papers too.

Dolphin--yea you can help them unpack. in regards to darla's comment--the NWS doesn't have security gates for base housing, so anyone can just drive on in. You don't need to register as a guest b4 driving in and you don't need base stickers. You can even park on the side of the road (although most houses have a double driveway for extra cars) Lawn care is provided on base unless you have a fenced in back yard (in which case, u have to trim it or you'll get in trouble!)
