Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Mass Communication Specialists are concerned with public affairs and visual communication. Their role is to present the US Navy to Naval and civilian audiences, through a variety of media. MCs write and produce both print and broadcast journalism, including news and feature stories for military and civilian newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations. They record still and video photography of military operations, exercises, and other Navy events.

More info for those of you who have sailors getting ready to head to FT Meade:
Go to the link http://www.dinfos.osd.mil/index.asp for DINFOS. There is an ACADEMICS Tab>Course Offerings. A list of classes appears for 2010. Above the list a paragraph with a link to ATRRS. Click on the link. You may be asked to authenticate the certificate. It is safe to do so. After following those directions a page will appear with drop down boxes. Fill in the boxes for Fiscal YR (20XX, the YR searching for), School Code (212), State (MD)>search courses. You can then select each course and see the details for when those classes start & end.

Wondering at what point he will find out where he is stationed after A School? I imagine it's towards the end but wondering if anyone can answer from experience. Thanks so much!

She actually talked to the recruiter and there's two spots open for MC to leave in Feburary. She's defidently going to wait to get that rate so she can get all she can out of the Navy. Thanks again everyone!

My daughter is very interested in the MC rate. She is eligable for it with her ASVAB score, but knows its very hard to get into. Do you have any tips on how to get the rate? Is it worth is to do Undes. or wait for the Rate that really interests her? Also we've heard you need to make a portfolio, and get 'accepted' by a superior of that rate Any feedback would be grately appreciated.

Comment by blithes0me on June 28, 2012 at 9:33am: @Jeannade, I live an hour away so it's not as close as I want but I'm so grateful! I must say, DINFOS has definitely taken a toll on him... 'A School' is really intense training, but with the intensity and hard work all the time, they are definitely rewarded with free time (especially because they are SURROUNDED by tourist-esque areas like D.C. and the Baltimore Harbor) "A School" has a lot of perks especially compared to Boot Camp... just sent him his blanket and ALL 60 of his DVDS along... so get those care packages started :)

I had heard something like that but I thought it was best to check with someone who's "been there/done that". I already have the tablets and will start coaching my mom on how to use it and skype. Oh and @ blithes0me... please don't take this the wrong way but I'm sooo jealous..Your sailor gets to come home sometimes for dinner, etc during training... SOOOO nice... Would it be wrong to move up there for 6 months ;-)... I didn't think I could miss that son of mine sooooo much and yet be sooooo happy and proud at the same time.. Again thanks for the info...

Comment by blithes0me on June 26, 2012 at 12:37pm: @Jeannade, My sailor graduated bootcamp 4/13... He is now in A School in Ft. Meade, MD (I live right down the street... It's a really nice area!)
Once your sailor arrives at the airport in Chicago, and steps off that bus and into the airport, he is officialy FREE from Boot! Which means you are able to go meet him and wait with him until his flights arrives, and in doing so, you can drop off any personal belongings to him (like the tablets)

Comment by jeannade on June 11, 2012 at 11:07am: Good morning everybody.. My SR will PIR on 07/06 and then off to A school the next day. Does anybody know if they can have electronic devices when they first arrive at MC A School?

I want to pick up android tablets for him and my mother so they can video chat while he can. My mother has health issues that will cause us to lose her in the next few years and they are SOOO close I thought it would be a good Birthday present for both of them.

So ladies any idea of when he could have something like that once he leaves RTC? Any help would be wonderful, thanks.
