Wow, JoyB.  Don't worry too much; you'll be most likely impressed with her when you see her after boot camp.  In a very good way.

Thank you for the words of encouragement.  She leaves for boot camp as soon as the recruiter gets here.

Sounds great.  My son is in A school now at Fort Meade.  He is really looking forward to this. He'll finish in April and then we'll see where he goes from there.  So exciting!

I know people that failed mc school school and had to cross rate. If you graduate they are not gonna send you to a different rate school off the bat. I would think you woul dhave to serve out your enlistment then if the other rate is accepting then put in for a rate transferr. Ive also see sailors whos rates are extremly overmanned that can cross rate quickly. Mc is steady and not overmaned so i dont see that happening. Its possible to cross rate it may just be a while =)

Does anyone know if they can go through A-school and then go to another field (ie logistics) and further their career by being multi-lingual?

Also some food for thought. Mc isn't 100% advancement from e3 to e4 anymore. Around 60 just took the most recent test and about nine didn't make it. Its even harder to progress to 2nd and 1st class. The rate is small and there isn't a ton of need for higher up mc's , so you definitely have to study study study to progress through the rate.

Grab the MC when you can as it may not always be open.  Must have a good score on the ASVAB to get it.  DEP is good as you have visitors that come talk to the meetings to let you know what is't really like.  Sign and swear in when your job is available.

Ahhh thank you BonnieRN and yes I have talked to a few recruiters i'll be taking the asvab in December of this year and signing paperwork to swear in after i graduate from college in August!

Cathomas, have you been talking to a recruiter ? I know from my daughters experience that she was in the delayed entry program for a year before she finally went to boot camp and then MC school. She spent part of that time getting in shape and studying some boot camp handbook. As far as web sites..google mass communications specialist and you will get some basics . Good luck.

My son is coming home for Thanksgiving so I will ask about the pumpkin cookies Bonnie.  He went to Pratt Institute, which is pretty much an art school; he was a writing major, but I think all the those artsy types are drawn to Mass Communication.  This is definitely a great rate for those creative folks.
