Thanks NavyMom93. I am still not sure how it happened, but glad it did. He has been there since 6/7.

NavyMom, my son got to go off base not too long after he arrived.  I was surprised, because I thought they were strict about phasing up, but they will let them do things like that.  You are right, though, they will go off base for class assignments as well as volunteer activities.  My son marched in the National Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C.  It was so much fun seeing him on TV! I'm not sure how long it will take your son to phase up to phase II, a month or so?  They have to complete certain requirements before they can.  They probably gave him liberty off base before starting school, and as a nice break after boot camp!

Just noticed our sailor has been off base today. Are they in a new phase of liberty after two weeks of being at A school? Or is this what they do when they work on projects?

NavyMom, it is really set up in such a way that they are greatly supported and helped in their transition.

NavyMom93 it is great to know that there is "sponsoring" of new students. I am sure it helps them adjust faster.

NavyMom, my son told me he was sponsoring a new student, so I thought that was probably your Sailor's PIR group. Yes, communication improves a lot after boot camp!

Our Sailor arrived at A School yesterday as one of 15 from RTC. It is so nice to receive real time texts. He said they are in rooms of 3 and begin indoctrination today. Anyone else in this group with a new arrival ?

NavyMom, congratulations, and enjoy PIR!

@ Proudmama.  I had one other thought on your previous post.  You should be really glad that your son told you about recycling.  I know that quite a few in my son's class that failed out or were recycled did not honestly tell their parents why they did not finish the MC course or why their initial graduation date was delayed.  You should feel good that your son shared the honest story about being in school longer and the reason for it. They were ashamed and lied about it.  Sounds like you've raised a young man that is honest.  Praying for him to do well this time!
