Good morning, my husband graduated BootCamp on Friday. He is now in "A" school at Meridian. We have no idea on what to expect. So any info will help. We have a 5 week old son that he just met on Friday. How soon will we be able to visit? When will he be able to have his car back? How far will he be able to travel away from the base? I need any info on what to expect. Thanks in advance
I was going to Meridian soon and wanted to stay at the Navy
Gateway on base. What do I need to do to get on base? Has anyone been there? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
My son has been in A school it will be two weeks on Saturday thinking about visiting soon.
@Nick's Mom No problem, I love keeping in touch with Navy MOMs. We are a very special bunch! Hoorah!
@Terry'sMom; so I think people are allowed to visit on the weekends; however, I don't know where. There may be a Navy Lodge on the base but since I never visited, I am not sure. As far as I can remember, son had a roomate who didn't clean pretty regularly and so my son would get in trouble as well. The price of peer pressure.
@Nick'sMom, yes he can have his electronics. They are not permissible at GL but if you meet him at O'Hare (very late at night sometimes), you can give him everything he needs. My son got his iPhone and iMac back.
As far as the facilities, they are typical Navy. The common areas of kitchen and bathroom are shared with other men and everything is expected to be as neat as a pin. My son was never neat but became neat with the Navy. He will go through inspections and everything. Also, you could see him on the weekends but Mississippi is so out of the way. Skyping in the main facilities are allowed. WiFi doesn't work very well except in the those common areas.
Hi, my son will be heading o Meridian this fall after boot camp for A school as a YN. Can you tell me about the barracks? Is it 2 or 4 guys to a room? Does it take a long time till they are allowed liberty? Any suggestions on where to stay if his wife wants to visit?
