For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

HI,
I am wondering if there are any other Navy moms on here that are from the Muskegon area
Our son is leaving for Boot Camp in 3 weeks and thought it would be nice to find some seasoned moms in the area that I can glean from as we move through this new transition in our lives

Hi, I am not in Muskegon but I am in Allendale...not far from Muskegon at all. My son has been in the Navy since (including bootcamp) since June. Now he is in Pensacola and will be graduating from his A school at the end of December.

Hi and welcome. Im from the grand rapids area, My daughter PIR 3/16... she is now aboard the USS Eisenhower on a 9 month deployment. She will be back to Norfolk,Va sometime in March.

I live in Grand Rapids and my son has been in the Navy since January of 2011. I would be happy to help in any way that I can. I must tell you to be careful what you read and who you listen to though. I got some great info on here as well as some bad. Not all things are true for all moms and recruits. Feel free to private message me as well. Many blessings to you during these transitions.

I am in Grand Haven and my son graduated boot camp on October 5, 2012. He is currently in San Antonio for A school. He graduates later this month and will then go to his base.
You may PM me if you would like. I'm sure we had the same recruiting office if not the same recruiter.

Thank you to everyone...so awesome knowing that there are other moms nearby. I am starting to feel a little anxiety about our son leaving 2 weeks from this coming Tuesday. I am sure I am feeling the normal things; will he be safe, will they treat him with some dignity, will he be able to overcome the challenges...would anyone share with me some of the things you felt as you were getting ready to let go? In addition to this, he is our first to leave home.
I will state though, that I am SO proud. My husband and I are thrilled with his decision. -

PIR stands for Pass In Review and is the graduation ceremony after boot camp.
All of your questions are quite valid but everyone and every situation is different. Yes, your son will be safe. As for the dignity part....... remember that they are trying to prepare and train these recruits for possible battle. It may not seem like the recruits are being treated well but they will be the better for it. As for overcoming challenges..........unless your son is totally inept, I doubt that he would not be able to handle it. But don't let your own motherly instincts nor your fears take over. I was very sad to see my son go but also excited to see what his future would bring. However, when I got that first call after he got to boot camp, I wanted to drive to Chicago to go get him and bring my baby home! The absolute fear in his voice was a bit much and I felt like I just wanted to protect and comfort him.
Bottom line here is............our son did just fine and has said that he did the right thing by joining the Navy. He is doing very well and is considering being a lifer. The beginning is hard but hang in there, it will get better. Remember, your son is a man now and no longer your little boy. He will belong to the Navy but that isn't such a bad thing. They will take the best care of him that can be done and if he has the right attitude, it could be the best decision he has ever made for his future.

Sindy, Thanks for replying today. We live very close to each other :)
I am just wanting to have some names of other ladies in the general area as we have moved into this new phase of lif, our son in the Navy. I remember when my husband (then fiance) was in and stationied in San Diego, the support out there was incredible. With us not being a "Navy Town" thought it would be great to find some ways to connect Navy families and support one another as we support our family members serving. I sent you a friend request...thanks again
