The Shadowhawks are an Electronic Attack Squadron & are deployed on the Bush aircraft carrier in the Gulf.

There are 216 sailors assigned to the Shadowhawks -- 190 men and 26 women.  They received pillowcases when they arrived on the ship, so no need to worry about pillowcases for this adoption.

I received this sweet message from our POC:  “…it is so hot out here.  But it seems wrong to ask for anything.  Whatever you do will be received well by our Sailors.  And, thank you for what you are doing, not just for us, but for every Sailor life you are touching.”  He went on to say that our ideas for them would be far better than anything he could think of & he didn’t want to ask others for input as he wants this to be a huge & total surprise.

So, Moms we have our work cut out for us …  One thing I thought we should keep in mind is that they will be receiving their boxes right around  9/11 – the reason they are deployed & still fighting this war on terror that the other side started 10 years ago.  Let’s make certain that our sailors know:

                         “We Will Never Forget.”

Many will have sad memories of that day – NYC, DC & PA, let’s do our best to put a positive spin on things. I was thinking for a theme - “Picnic in Central Park”.  Central Park is a GREAT place for a picnic!

And, August is ‘National Picnic Month.’  In Central Park, people read, play ball, throw Frisbees, children blow bubbles & draw pictures with sidewalk chalk. There are artists painting & drawing, people writing or talking.  Of course, we can’t do anything about walking a dog (& pooper-scooping), but people jog, do yoga & catch some rays while playing in the fountains.  And, of course, eat!!!  (So we need food/snack items.)

Perhaps items can be red, white & blue to acknowledge American endurance on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

Shipping will be August 22 – 27th.

These are just my thoughts.  So, let the discussions begin … !!!!

MESSAGE JUST RECEIVED THAT THE FEMALE SAILORS ARE BEING TAKEN ON.  If someone wants to help in some way, contact Lauren.

Everything sounds wonderful!!  Love the name 'Shadowhawkettes'!  LOL  Maybe you should get a patent on that.

I'm hoping we have plenty of guy stuff too!  Guess I'll have to see what I can round up for them too.  I'm gonna need some new contacts.  Will have to talk to my other brothers and see what connection they have that I can use.  I'll tell them the 'youngest' came thru, now it is there turn...

I should have 4 guy boxes along with a few different snacks that everyone can share.

ha ha ha on the Shadowhawkettes name ----------tooo cute !!!

Oh, thank you Kim!!  Did I sound worried?  (I was!)  But I shouldn't have been, this group always comes thru for their adoptees.  Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I also have water bottles to include in each of my 4 boxes. Between my boss and I, we have ordered M&Ms, Peanut M&Ms, Cheezit crackers, and some salami sticks. I will combine those into a couple boxes and send them along for everyone to have.
I can bring some cards for people to sign. Our property taxes are due the first of September so I'm a BIT short on play money this month!!  I might bring a friend who is from the Quad Cities, too.
that is wonderful...  best part of mollys is one mom packs boxes one month and another sends cards...  but it all works out in the end to get our adoptees the most love ever!!
Sue bring them along, I will have a table set-up for card making,  I'm thinking we'll have a box or two for our Army guys(Dwyer) ......I will also have a pillow case decorating table set-up and I hear there might be a few girl scouts wanting to do that , So Sue I totally understand money being tight. Please bring friends....There is going to be plenty for us all to do....can't wait this weekend is going to be busy ....Indy on Sat and Iowa on Sun.....
Don't worry too much about the "hawks" vs. the hawkettes.  We narrowed it down so we could focus, but there will end up being boxes for the guys I'm sure especially since the newspaper just contacted me for an article.  Should be something in on Thursday.  If we get too much stuff I have an address of a unit in remote Afghanistan mountains that needs love.  I've told them to request adoption, but if they don't get it done, donations will come through and we'll get some boxes shipped there without Molly postage.
I also have several cases (CASES) of Girl Scout cookies I will bring. Will they be able to accept Thin Mints?

Girl Scout cookies, are you kidding?  They will absolutely LOVE them.  Just don't indicate they are girl scout cookies on the custom form - just 'cookies' will do perfectly.  Our POC says that they take chocolate anything.  To quote him, "we've become very innovative on eating soft or melting chocolate!"  He is such a nice guy.

BTW, what are the quad cities?  Just wondering...

@Ruth, wow we are getting news coverage everywhere!!  How exciting!!  It will only help MAS down the road.  Love it!!!
