MOTTO: “GUNG HO” was the Battle Cry of the Second Raider Battalion and the Motto of USS MAKIN ISLAND (CVE 93). “Gung Ho” translated means “Work Together”.

Being a Fast Attack momma I really knew nothing about the Makin Island, but doing a little research I found that their motto :GUNG HO” meant work together, I thought that since we as Molly moms would fail if we did not “Gung Ho” it would be a great battle cry for us.

So let’s GUNG HO into the NEW YEAR together. Since the size of the group is extra large, we will not be shipping till the middle of Feb. Since the timing will not be making any special holiday I thought that we could just make it a "All Things New" packing Whether it is a new snack or new game or something new to learn.

This is the wish list that was provided to me..... BE AWARE there might be a little special request coming soon....

They stay pretty strict with regulations so there will be no pillow cases shipped with this adoption....

Any other Ideas, PLEASE bring them on........I'm still waiting on a head count of men women marines

shipping date to follow but since such a large groug will not be till middle of February

I have the numbers for you.

These are round about numbers and of course not exact; they change all
the time.

Sailors
744 Male             -59 = 685
225 Female   -44 = 181
Marines
1150 Male        -219 = 931
51 Female       DONE

Can I ask for everyone doing bags to send me their count in a personal message so I don't miss the count in the conversation...thanks all

Also I am going to be "MAKIN"  a scrap/photo book to send to the Makin for them to remember that MAS is thinking about them. . If you would like to be apart of it, please send me any pictures or small notes you would like to share with them to ArmVymom@gmail.com. Please put scrapbook in subject line...thanks

Also they are in need of Children's books that they can use for the United in Reading program. This is where the parents read a book while being recorded and then send the DVD and book to the child....what a get way to be a parent while away.

Shipping will be Feb 24-25th

Well, Little Missy, what were you doing????? Could you have been a little busy hugging your son?? Or were you just in total shock???

shock ..and lots of hugging

You can send it all to me if you need -----I have a girl scout troop that can finish it all up if needed ??  or pieces of it anything you need ( Slacker  HUGGER)  ha ha WHO among us wouldn't choose our baby home from deployment over a craft table !!  Shoot Sister I'm surprised you did anything other then hug that boy !!!     Let me know if you want to ship things this way

thanks my sister but Susan said she would do 5 and I don't know if you saw the FB pictures, but I had my sailor (so happy he is sub guy again) .working on them...lol...never in my life would did I think that I would see him working on crafts.....I started piecing it together today ...wait till you see the sash.....

pieces are done and in the mail on their way back to you...  had fun doing them!!

Yay, my boxes are in the mail.  So very excited to finally get them on their way.  Would sure love to be a fly on the wall as the Makin Island gets the boxes and starts opening them.  Oh heck, I don't want to be a fly, I'd rather just be there in person and see them having a great time.  Wish we could have a spy cam there filming it all.

well I can't turn you into a fly and ship you there, but it sounds like we will be getting pictures....I hope lots of pictures !!!!!

We can also keep an eye on www.navy.mil/local/lhd8/ to see if any pics show up!!!!

and remember modern age FACEBOOK...oh how I wish there was FB when my son went in and that his sub would have had a page. !!!!

Shipped my 5 boxes last week.  I had so much fun doing it and getting the church kiddoes involved, that my dear old hubby wants to help me next time!!!  He won't work pillow cases with me, or do the "girly" boxes, but he wants to help.  He said last night that he'd love to see the faces of those Marines and Sailors when they see what's been done for them!!

You'd have to understand my hubs, he's not a "joiner" and feels out of place in some situations and is really kind of shy (which comes off as grumpy to some people) so for him to want to be involved is HUGE!!!!  Can't want to fill more needs!!

This is the amazing heart of our project, TN Mom.  I have goosebumps knowing your hubby is "one of us!"

How awesome, TN mom, that your hubby wants to take part.  So often it's just us womenfolk who get involved in activities like this.  The men bring their own special flavor and input and that's so valuable!
