That's right Moms! We are going to the mountains of Afghanistan in March. Our group is 300 Marines (15 females) They are HMH-465 Det A.
We have some baseball fans in our adoptees SO since we are entering spring - spring training that is - our theme for the month is BASEBALL! In addition to their requests let's give them some baseball goodies to celebrate the start of the baseball season. Some suggestions: baseball cards, shredded Big League Gum, shredded jerkey, peanuts, popcorn, cracker jack, sunflower seeds. Stats on teams, pennants, game day programs, sports magazines, - whatever you can think of!
Pillowcases are always appreciated and don't forget those cards and letters!
Their requests:
k-cups for Keurig coffee maker - Timothy's caribou and Irish Cream are their favorites,
Orville Reddenbocker popcorn
corn nuts - all flavors but ranch is their favorite
bite size candy bars and M&Ms
smart Food's cheddar pop corn
magazines - workout, bow hunting, field & stream, boating
salt & pepper shakers
body soap and shampoo
chips (Tostitos and Munchies)
tuna
nature valley crunch bars
Of course, feel free to add to their list. They have refrigeration and a microwave. There are 15 females in their unit.
Our mailing dates will be March 21-28th. I'll post the address in the address group soon. And I'll be getting a count of boxes and pillowcases as we get closer so I can warn - er, notify, our contact, hee hee!

its party time..
are we sending pillow cases for everyone?
I have some nice soft sheets, that I can't use anymore they are for a full size bed, can I make some pillowcases and neck coolers out of them? they are a warm brown and soft :)
I have the pattern for the neck coolers, but not the pillowcases can anyone tell me what size would be best?
Thank you
Kym
Here is the directions we use.
Use 45” fabric (you could cut the sheet 45")
Iron the 3” strip in half - lengthwise (wrong sides together).
First lay down the 10” piece, then the 27”, and
finally the 3” band (right sides up).
Roll the “body” piece up past the bottom of the wide band.
Fold edge of wide band so that right sides are together
(with the larger “body” piece rolled up inside and the edges of the decorative band also between).
Make sure all pieces are even and straight.
Pin and sew. (This looks like a long tube).
Turn right side out and press.
Put right sides together and sew the “L”.
Turn inside out. Press and enjoy!
Thank you!!
I know what to do next week while it is snowing again...
Hey all!!
Love the idea of baseball... maybe this is our 'build it and they will come'... only they are there and waiting for the fun to come to them!! I have two baseball mitts.... wonder if we can ship baseball bats???
I have a few baseball team prints for pillowcases but the MLB won't let the fabric companys print cotton anymore, so what I have is retired, I can do some bands on cases. You can still find the cotton MLB prints on ebay but they are pricey. They do have just baseball themed prints though.
I am a HUGE fan of baseball!!! This is right up my alley or should I say down my field!!
That explains why I couldn't find cotton MLB patterns, but could NFL!
I think I still have fabric with baseballs all over it...will have to check...
Their list just humbles me (as they all do). Look what they are requesting! SIMPLE things in life!
Anyone see the weather in Afghanistan? I think it is REALLY cold! I wonder if they would like those hand warmers. I don't see them real often down here - but sometimes I do!
