May is here and it's time for our May adoption.
Our group this month is a Black sea Rotational Task Force. They are a Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force, and yes, you guessed it, they are deployed in or around the Black Sea! They consist of 350 males and 5 females.
Our theme this month will be "baseball". Let's see if we can send some love and a little piece of home to brighten their day and their spirits. Be as creative as you like. Maybe you can add an item with your favorite team's MLB logo on it. Some ideas might be a baseball hat, water bottle, baseball cards/gum packs, etc.
So, let's get motivated Moms, and hit this one outta the ballpark!!!
Needs:
*razors
*insoles for boots
Wants:
*snack foods(all types)
*DVDs
*books and magazines
*pretty much anything else!
*pillowcases are okay to send
We will concentrate on sending bulk boxes, instead of individuals.
Don't forget letters and cards.
We will ship on May 19-22.

Smart thinking mom......I will include a pair of scissors in my box!
Having a small packing party with my neighbors again this month. A few months ago,it started with asking one of my neighbors to stop by and help me fill some boxes, write some notes and help me with a few customs forms. Then a couple of other neighbors wanted to contribute some goodies and their time. Now, they're asking me what are we doing this month and when will we be packing and shipping! It is so contagious! For us, it's a break from the everyday stuff. We sit around and have wine or a few drinks and some apps., and we turn it into a fun night. Try it with a friend or a neighbor, and see what happens...we're motivating each other. It's all GOOD!
Scissors is a great idea :) and YEP MJ this is addicting as heck
You bet Lorraine, will do! Thanks very much!
MJ - An update on the St. Francis Confirmation class bake sale money: First let me say how thankful I am to them for raising the money for our May adoption. Now for the issue.
The group, (mostly instant gratification freshman) wanted to shop tomorrow, instead of May 16th, and spend all of the $1,000 at Costco. I asked the Church coordinator, (and new Molly supporter) to hold back some of the money until May 16th. The American Legion in our town is having a meeting soon and they will discuss the type of donation, either cash or product, that they will contribute. I didn't want the kids to spend all of the money without knowing what the American Legion will donate.
The kids will purchase individually packaged snack items of all types. I am requesting a hold back of $300 to be spent on May 16th to fill in whatever items you may need. I hope that a $300 hold back is enough. I wanted to keep you in my loop of confusion so that you could plan accordingly.
Hopefully Costco will give us a deep discount and we could get more bang for the buck. I will take a conservative guess and say that we should be able to pack between 35 to 40 boxes.
Someone wants to donate the packets for coffee, the creamer, sugar, stirrer combo type. Can this group use that or should it be diverted to a hospital or held for a future adoption. So sorry that this is so long winded!
Laura,
Thank you very much to you and your church group! You guys are amazing; and I love when the kids get so involved. I'm hoping with either the $300.00 or the American Legion donation, that we could get some nice razors(the good ones), or some more insoles. Those were 2 items that they specifically wanted. I'm sure we have some razors being donated, and we have approx. 65 insoles., so we could use a bunch more of those.
I am not sure about the coffee packets, creamers and sugars. I am not able to communicate with my contact very much, so we'll just have to do the best we can. If you'd like to send that to one of the hospital groups that we know could use it, that would be fine. Any other questions, feel free to ask. I appreciate you keeping me in the loop . Thank you for helping to make this month's adoption a success!
For anyone who was involved in sending boxes to the Army unit for the April adoptions, could you please private message me your email address? They are asking for email addresses so they can personally thank everyone. Please see my last message on the April adoptions discussion. We got a wonderful thank you from the Army unit.
Hi Kat
I sent you a friend request, but my email address is mombyheart@gmail.com. I sent a coffee maker to this group and I'm hoping the pot part made it without breaking!!!!
Thanks for doing such a great job on this adoption!
I have some razors both make and female I can send from all of us if you want ?
(( I dont think we have 350 of them but I have about 50 nice ones and replacement cartridges))

Molly, I would love for you to send the razors. I don't think I have that many as of yet, and that was one of their few requests. Thanks...and have a wonderful Mother's Day!
