For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi Navy Nuke Mom, my son is also going there on June 1st though he graduated March 30. He had a really short grad hold and took some Navy classes but now he is a short timer, I called yesterday and he was chipping paint LOL. So I guess our sons will be in the same class. Mine is a ET. There are a lot of people here who have been through the entire prototype.
There is not a Navy oriented site for Ballston Spa as far as I know. It is not really a base, just the plant, so they are really just living in the suburbs and there are not a lot of navy-related services in Ballston Spa but I hear it is a beautiful little town.

I just spent a bit of time trying to figure out why I could not reply until I thought to sign in...LOL! Hi William in Nashua! That would be very cool if our kids were in the same class. I have been finding out more and more about the whole Ballston Spa thing. My son and two buddies found an apartment, so they are good to go. My son is an MM. Do you know what exactly prototype school entails? How long is it usually? I'm hearing about other phases and so I'm getting confused. Did all the June 1 kids just take some sort of test, or was that the mom's of the ones finishing prototype? Nice to meet you. :)

The ones finishing prototype in June took their final exams so they are about to graduate and go to the fleet. The students at prototype do not all finish at the same time, because it takes some longer to qualify than others. There is some leeway built into it but you have to keep up with a certain number of points every week or you fall behind the curve. I only have a vague idea of it but way I understand it is the first two months are more classroom oriented where they have to learn what they have to know but in a more self-directed way. Then the final four months they are hands on at the reactor qualifying for watches and that is when they get into the crazy long hours and working day- and night shift. By now since they are working on the details of their job, the MMs and ETs will be in different sections even though they are all at prototype during the same period of time.

That is a lot of good information, thank you! My son Michael does not "text" too much info to me about the specifics of what he is doing. Just likes to say "HI". My name is April, by the way. I think I am going to change my "nickname" to reflect it so it is not so vague. Anyway, prototype is about six months if you keep up?
