Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

1proudmama/EM/S8G/1403, What is SG8? You also mentioned Marf. I don't know what that is either. I feel like I should know...
B'sNukeMoM, upstate NY will feel a little nippy for you coming from SD. Here in Indy, the low tonight will be -7. High tomorrow will be 3. Our heater can't get the temp in the house up to the temp the thermostat is set on (68 degrees), this morning we woke up to a house that was 62 degrees, with tonight's and tomorrow's even colder temp, I'm afraid how cold our house will be...
1proudmama - nice to know that you are in VA. I might take you up on the offer when we finally make a visit that way! Sailor reports there on 2/26.
We are actually in Riverside - about an hour from SD. I don't think I can handle your cold - I'm not sure how I'm going to survive graduation in NY on the 23rd! Brrrrr....
You all know to expect delays at S8G. My son has been in NY a year now! Hopefully things will move more quickly for yours but don't hold your breath. His graduation was changed at least 3 times!
Yay to those sailors and their families on graduating and finding out their ships and ports. I live in Virginia about 1.5 hours from Norfolk you are all welcome anytime.
Cerise- My son is in class 1403 SG8 is hearing rumors of not graduating till May.
B'sNukeMom - you live in San Diego right? How funny if my son gets San Diego. We will have to switch houses. I'm willing to do that now going down to 8 degrees tomorrow night. brr So happy for your sailor.
He qualified!!!! I am ONE HAPPY MOMMA right now!
I thought I saw someplace that class 1403 will graduate in end of March. I can't find that post, if you have a son/daughter in 1403, have you gotten a graduation date?
It will be interesting to see what my son gets. He said in his dream sheet that the class of sub is more important than the location. The class he would like to be on are only in Groton and Pearl Harbor. He listed the locations in order of Groton, Norfolk and Kings Bay, don't know after that. Judging from this he should get Groton (which he picked because of his "dream" sub), but who knows. I know he put Japan and Guam last, and we're hoping he won't get Guam, because of the long travel to visit.
In the end, I hope he'll like what he'll get, that's the main thing for me. Mo matter what he gets, he won't be close to home (mid-west).
