Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY

Wanted to start a group for moms, dads, and other family members that have Nukes currently attending Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY.

Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

HI Kris, the packet for Sta-21 - there are several things he can be working on now. its so competitive, what ever he can do in advance will help him.

It doesn't look like we will have Aaron home for either holiday - will be hard, but its what we figured would happen this year.... at least we should be able to see him around April or May as he passes through heading to College :)
I would have loved to visit BS also..... I really want to see NY city! But my husband has been out of work (besides a few temp jobs) since May so no trips for me yet.

Have been following the holiday hopes of each Mom. We're hoping Scott is home for Thanskgiving as he says he has a 5-day weekend (Thurs thru Mon). I found round trip flights for around $353 but he'd have to drive to Albany to catch the plane. It's hard to plan a flight home because he's not sure what time he can leave Thanksgiving morning. It would be nice if they would cut them loose late Wednesday instead of saying they may have to report on a holiday morning for a brief period. Like Gail, I had hoped to make it out to BS, but it doesn't look like I will be able to. Good luck to all of you getting time with your sailors over the holidays.

CarolAileen - is the "packet" you referred to for Officer or SPU?
sounds like the 'honeymoon' is over for Steven & his roommate - would have thought he would've realized good friends dont always make good roommates! (our daughter learned the hard way $)
Gail & Terry - did you check flying into different airports that might not be as close to your main one? sometimes that can make a difference $50 - $100.
its wierd how prices can vary, Steven found a flight from Albany to Wisconsin for $300.00. I dont think hes coming home though, wont have his 4 days off around either holiday.

Kris, tell him to work on his packet early - getting Letters of recommendations, ( Since they haven't been in that long he should get LORs from his time before enlisted also ) putting in volunteer time, working on his personal statement, its a long process, but lots to do! I'm told that SPU will look good on the application. That is what Aaron was going to try to do if he didn't get selected this year.

hi Carol Aillen -he's thinking about it, of course it would be for next year since i think this year is passed. he would really like to be considered for SPU at BS. he had gone to college for elementary education so he has alot of those classes. i do know at GC he would organize & run some study groups during power school.

Thank you Terry - it has been exciting around here :) It looks like he will finish prototype and then stay around and help staff until he leaves for NSI officer schooling - 8 weeks there and then he will start summer session at hopefully OSU.

OH MY!!!! JUMPING FOR JOY HERE!!! The results are FINALLY out!!! Aaron got selected for the STAl-21 program!!!!!!!

must be a tough test... or a eye opener on how they should be studying. I'm sure they all will do much better on the retest. Aaron hasn't heard anything on the officer program.... this waiting is hard! I've been checking webpages at least every 1/2 hour through out the day..... I'm worse than my son lol. But Aaron has a good plan if he doesn't get it this time around so he will be fine either way. I'd love to have him just 8 -9 hours a way for 3 yrs though!
