Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY

Wanted to start a group for moms, dads, and other family members that have Nukes currently attending Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY.

Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

Good morning! My son came home for the weekend. It was such a wonderful surprise since we had no idea he was coming. He will be off next weekend and will come again. After that, he doesn't think he'll be able to come for a while since he just got his work schedule while on hold. It was great seeing him and I plan to enjoy his being so close to home at this time. Have a great day all.

Hi-

My son says that the S8G reactor (one out of the 2 there) is down so some delays are possible but they can still study and get their checkouts. He's managed to get away every weekend so far to visit with family in the area (CT and NY) but thinks it'll get harder and busier soon. Loves the area. Have a good weekend everyone and hope you hear from your sailors -

I don't get much detailed info from my son John, so it was good to find someone who's been through it. John's an ET3 and is sharing a house with 4 other people in Saratoga Springs, and he's already started the training with no holds.

I don't know if this site will be of interest to anyone, but it's a fairly recent account of a sailor's experience with prototype training in Ballston Spa. It explains a lot about their initial weeks there and the schedules they will be following as time goes on, plus tips on how to handle the workload and stress: http://swordvspen.blogspot.com/2009/01/navy-prototype-rundown-balls...

Terry, Aaron is applying for the officer program - if selected he will go to college for 3 yrs and get his nuclear engineering degree. He has gone through the LT boards in S.C. and the Capt. interview is supposed to be sometime soon - this week he thought.... but if his paperwork is missing....yiks!!! He wanted to hand carry it but they wouldn't let him. He has copys of everthing that he did himself, but there are parts that he could not have copys of. He seemed calmer about it today - he thinks it will all be straightened out tomorrow.

Aaron said that their paperwork was missing and they waited 3 hours while they tried to figure it all out.... they ended up sending them home for the day! I hope they get it all taken care of soon, Aaron's Sta-21 paperwork is also missing!

Hi, I'm new to this group. My son just moved up for Prototype in Ballston Spa and is reporting today. I haven't heard anything from him so I don't know about having any travel restrictions for this weekend. He did tell me that he would have to find out if there are any restrictions for weekends in general since we live in NJ and he would like to travel to some family functions we will be having in the next couple of months.
