Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY

Wanted to start a group for moms, dads, and other family members that have Nukes currently attending Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY.

Members: 169
Latest Activity: Jun 19

Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

Penny - I don't know, and I was planning on pulling all of those out (the other two refer to reactors, I think) to make it more general.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is MTG?

Hey, all.

I just got off the phone with Northwest Territorial Mint from who  I have, over the years, purchased a number of challenge coins commemorating my sailor's progress.  I have made do with what they have, but they really have none dedicated to the nuke training pipeline.

I am giving serious thought to having some custom challenge coins made up, round, something like a cross between the attached - round, but with nuke symbols.

So, anyone else interested?  I would have them made up with an place for sailor and date-specific engraving.

Only issue, they won't be ready til mid-Feb, so it would be a post-grad gift for those in Class 1302.

I sure hope your son is right Patti. Mine had to retake a section yesterday but is working swings and not answering any texts. He won't tell my when he's coming home so he can surprise me :) He got orders for Hawaii so we are on the way.

Good job, ktrsb, on your son passing the 100%.  My son found that in taking the Oral Boards, some instructors will let you go once they determine you are going to meet the passing grade of a minimum 2.75 (or something around there).  My son was let go in a little over one hour and told he met the minimum grade and to "get outta here"!!!  lol Kind of disappointing to some of the sailors that would really like to know what their finally GPA could have been!!!  But by that time, GPA doesn't matter and they are glad to be done.

Oral board to be arranged according to individual sailor, likely in next week or so.  Oral lasts from one hour to three, depending on how well it goes.  My understanding is that sailors feel somewhat more confident about it since they can have, during the questioning, multiple opportunities to demonstrate knowledge, even if it takes them a little time (and prompting) to get there.  It's largely, as I understand it, the same as the checkouts they have been doing, but one giant furball of a checkout.

And then, graduation Jan 24.  Not sure if there is going to be a big ceremony, but we will be there, God willing.

ktrsb - we were posting at the same time!  I see you posted what happens next.  Good luck to him with the oral board!

BZ to your sailor ktrsb!  What happens next?

Exam was yesterday, during midday, and then he had to go to work, so he just woke up after going to bed.  We are happy, happy, happy.  Never been so proud.

Now for the oral board - but he is much more confident about that than he was the written exam.
