Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

My sailor just got his transfer orders to BS, leaves Goose Creek in about 4 wks. he's been trying to research apts/houses on the internet and from what I read here he will probably be getting some leads from the navy soon. he's got 2 potential roommates already. does anyone on here by chance have sailors who will be vacating their places first of the month that he could check on?
For those of you whose sailors are just now starting Prototype as an MM, my sailor is up there as well but as an instructor. He had been instructing at ON-CREW (which starts after week 7) and has just now been moved over to OFF-CREW (weeks 1-7) and for this week is working noon to 7pm. After this week, he will be back working 7am - 2pm. His job is signing off on qualifications - so if your sailor sees a big burly 6'2" dark red-headed instructor with dark brown eyes by the name of Thomason - tell your sailor to be kind to him!! He's a good kid and will do anything he can to help you understand the material. If your sailor needs extra time due to difficult material, please encourage them to speak up to my sailor - he's a born mentor and loves his job.
PattiP... Mine also started last Monday. Seemed like the longest road to get there!
Thank you for the information. Now I have a good starting point. I was not sure if there were airport options or not. Probably will have to stay at hotel, so if there is anyone who can make recommendations for that, I will be most appreciative for that information also. Thanks again.
I flew into Albany airport. Sailor and his roommate picked me up and I stayed at the house sailor was renting with 4 others in Ballston Spa. I believe Albany is about 45 minute drive from BS, and the airport has all the different car rental places. When hubby and I went last summer we rented from Budget at the airport.
My grandson should be graduating from Prototype in Sept. Can anyone help me with information as to the best airport to fly into, car rentals, hotels and anything else you think I should know about. This is all really new to me. Thank you so much.
He told me the 16th was graduation date!
Brian will graduate in September too. We are also very excited and proud. Did your son give you a date for graduation?
My son is on target to graduate 9/2013; we are very excited and proud for him. He started his shift work also, sounds brutal. They apparently suggest staying up for 24 hours to support the schedule shift. He did that I think it was Wednesday.
